I´m really sad. Tony Curtis died last wednesday in the age of 85... He was probably the reason why I have my 246GT now, as I watched the "persuaders" in the 70´s . The race against Lord Brad Sinclair is unforgetable.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwSYQzslnWg&feature=related I´m not sure if the TV series was ever shown in the US? It was shown for one season as a summer replacement show here in the US. I was 13 years old. It was my first exposeure to the Ferrari marque and where I fell in love with the Prancing Horse. The first episode where Danny first met his atagonistic partner Brett Sinclair (Roger Moore) they had a "friendly" street race up the Monoco coast. Brett was in his Aston Martin and Danny was in his Dino (which he refered to as a "Ferrari" btw in the episode), where they met up in a hotel and prodeeded to have a fight over a couple of olives in a drink and destroyed the bar and spent jail time together untill the ex-judge who invited them to Monoco bailed them out conditionally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=widKSdPcmD0&feature=related A truely great and fun series. I wish the network would have brought in their second season. R.I.P. Bernie Schwartz (Tony Curtis) JD
I'm only 17, but I love the Persuaders! His passing makes me feel very sad, he was a great actor! RIP
I have watched this many times over the years but today it really seems poignant, What a glorious moment in time. G P
I am sorry to hear that. "The Persuaders" showed here in faraway Manila. I was attracted to the car Tony Curtis drove there. I didn't know what it was initially, only that it was so beautiful. I remember the Dino's flying buttresses and Danny Wilde's driving gloves especially. Tony Curtis was also in The Great Race, you'll recall. I must find a DVD. some years ago, I bought a boxed set of The Persuaders and will watch an episode or two tonight to remember him (and my youth, of which he and the Persuaders were part). Andres
Tony Curtis was "The Great Leslie" Jack Lemon was "Professor Doom" Peter Falk as Pfr. Dooms assistant and Natalie Wood as the reporter. And the best food fight ever! Best part of the movie was Natalie in a corset covered with cake icing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23AvbQz9Ee8 JD
Especially in Germany the Persuaders were a big sucess due to really cool translation into german. The german comments were awesome funny and made the series become famous. The german title was "die zwei" which means "the two". I wonder if a producer will come to the idea to make a new reproduction of the series or a new movie like they did it with "Starsky and Hutch" or the "A-Team".
I always liked Tony Curtis as he made a lot of very good movies and never seemed to take the whole thing too seriously. Like many others i also saw The Dino for the first time in The Persuaders aged 11 and wanted one from that day onwards but had to wait 35 more years to get one. There have been plans to make a Movie for several years now and at the last mention of it i could find Bret Sinclair is listed as Hugh Grant and George Clooney as Danny Wilde. Both of whom i think would be good in the parts. And like so many others i will now have to get the Boxed DVD set off the shelf and re visit the Cheesy 70s.( Funny i dont remember it being Cheesy at the time but i guess thats nostalgia for you )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RqiD6HeqoA&feature=related ...very much afraid we will! ;o( RIP Danny Wilde
Me too. The Persuaders WAS shown in the US, and I was immediately smitten with the Dino. I never forgot it; but it wasn't until 2001 that I finally consumated my longing for one.
"The Persuaders" aired briefly while I was in law school, and I watched it whenever possible, only for the Dino (my first Dino was then about five years off). Although I had great respect for Tony Curtis, I secretly wished that Roger Moore had driven the Dino. After all, he was "The Saint," and he soon became 007. When I think of this TV series, I realize that the '70s weren't really as bad as they are today made out to be. Fred
This is a movie proposal, isn´t it? The choice for the actors are not bad, and a Enzo against an Aston Martin... For the A-Team movie they choose the same old Van... Maybe it would be too hard to find a Dino for the production?
The Persuaders just captured the whole dream of being a playboy with wit and style rather than vulgarity. The cars were perfect for the characters played so wonderfully by Roger Moore and Tony Curtis. What an antidote to the coarse money grabbing real world we have to inhabit. RIP Tony Curtis
I was a boy when the series was transmitted in Italy. The red Dino driven by Danny is propably one of the reasons why am driving Ferrari today. Incidentally the series is now re-transmitted on the channel 'Fox Retro' every Sunday at 21.00 CET. R.I.P. Danny.
Ages since I have seen that clip, great find Robert More memories from the show today on my blog http://psychoontyres.blogspot.com/ Congrats on consumating your longing for a Dino Cheers
It sure would be interesting if some dtective work could be done to find the chassis number of the Persuaders car and see where it is today. JD
The 246 L-Series used in the Persuaders was # 00810. It is today in Italy and still in private hands. Regards Nicolai Link to Wikipedia about the Series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Persuaders!
About 10 years ago I went on the Norwich Union Classic (UK run stopping off at places of interest). One stop was the Aston Martin restoration workshop at Newport Pagnell. In amongst the DB4s and 5s was a Bahama Yellow DBS in bubble wrap. When I asked our guide he confirmed that it was the DBS6 used by Roger Moore in The Persuaders.
Guy´s the "persuaders" are still alive! A big german oldtimer magazine is working on a Titelsory about Danny Wild and Lord Brad Sinclair and of Course their cars. I got a request from a Journalist for a crazy Owner of a LHD red dino (L- type would be perfect) who would go to (or be in) the UK) in august for the reunion with the original Astaon Martin. Any offers appreciated. Regards Nicolai
No offense intended to our Brit friends, but that Aston was pretty ugly - in period it looked to me like a Mustang Boss or Mach I. YUK!
