as our big friend from the hannons add says "not the DAP" btw Pete what are these worth as I'm going to get my boy into this kart thingy ?
A new kt100 kart will set you back from say $4,000 to $6,000. Depending on the age of your son he probably will have to race a kt100J and not the kt100S (which is what the kart I am looking at is powered by) as the S is for Seniors. The J motor revs to 10,000 rpm and the S to 15,000 ... thus naturally the J's last a lot longer It appears you can get a okay but heavily raced kart for around $2000 (try searching the internet, I have been to ensure I do not get ripped off ). Brand new motors cost $1000 apparently and tyres a set for $200 (BTW: The J's run on a Dunlop tyre that last for years while the S's run on a MG tyre that last about 4-5 meetings). Entry fees are $50 and a license costs $290 per year. Clothing requirements is simply some sort of non-nylon overalls with gathered cuffs and also non-nylon based shoes, plus ofcourse the helmet and I'm definitely going to wear a neck collar (I used to in my earlier racing days ...). Good luck. I do not know when children step from lamn mower powered and centrifugal clutch models to the kt100's ... that is IMO a big step. As this deal involved 2 chassis', if my step sons show enough interest I will through a second hand J motor at it and see how they go ... . Pete
DAP is an Italian kart manufacturer that has been around for some time. In fact Ayrton Senna was a factory DAP driver in the early 80's. I know little about the company and the quality of its current karts however do note that many kart manufacturers get karts that are 're-badged' versions of other karts. There is nothing wrong with this just that there are many more brands than manufacturers. When learning it is easy to go overboard worrying about equipment. A good driver will win in any decent chassis. Spend money on tires first, then the engine and then the chassis. Good luck.
My main concern was not ending up with a chassis that I cannot get parts for ... not really that it was the best chassis. While I will be racing to win ... it will remain a budget and time constrained bit of fun Thanks for the advise though ... and yes I imagine that new tyres will be required before even running it.
