this is almost too painful to type, though i am trying to remind myself that actually ~crashing~ a car is much more serious. bottom line, i caused a self-inflicted wound this evening, when the pacifica mini-van in front of me did not...as i thought it would...enter traffic as it turned right, but abruptly stopped...so as i looked left, at a speed of probably 5mph, i then "kissed" their rear bumper. their damage? oh, a line (not a crease, but a line) about a foot long in their back bumper. some guys woulda probably just shrugged their shoulders, but i figure worst case might be 500 bones with theirs. mine? well, let's say the skin has been broken on my front bumper, and creased in a couple other places. might a skilled artisan restore it? ...hmmm...maybe...but i'm guessing the cure will be a new front bumper. anyone ever had this happen? i know, i know, i can call the local place monday, but am wondering what this will cost me if i do a whole new bumper (all was below the lights/front trunk line, so no other damage was caused).

and yes, i am hugely pi$$ed at myself for making that mistake that begins with the word "assume"...

Without seeing pictures I'm guessing but I've seen some pretty bad bumpers fixed/resprayed and look like new. Out here it could run around $2,500 +/- or so just depends on the damage. Best of luck.

Most of the time the fiberglass bumper can be repaired. If it's too far gone PM me. My body shop friend has a few used ones sitting around the shop.

...... and I had to walk to school...... up hill....... both ways...... in the snow!

The bumper is probably fixable. Any good body shop can handle it.

Paul, any fiberglass can be repaired...........fiberglass is easy to fix in a qualified shop. You will need to spray your new bumper anyway, therefore, I would suggest removing your bumper and taking it to a qualified repair shop which will definitely be able to fix it.

Man, I had the exact same thing happen to me in 1985, when I was 17, in my 1970 Corvette that I had worked a year to buy. I still remember the feeling to this day! Now I never look left and inch ahead assuming that the, ahem, intelligent driver ahead of me will go when they should go! Best of luck, get it fixed quickly and thank God you have a 430 to drive.

    Here's the 430 bumper..

    http://www.prosport-ferrari.com/parts/lookup_table_parts_zoomer.php?car_id=34&tab_id=118&cat_id=12&sub_id=12

    not actually that expensive..

    Check out all F cars parts from;

    http://www.prosport-ferrari.com/parts/

This part of Prosport Ferrari site isn't yet pubic (!) (so the 'buy now' doesnt yet work) but its still a great resource for searching parts FAST because of the unique categorization across all models. Enjoy!

Just to make you feel better about this.

Front bumper for my Lambo 640 is close to $20000 and still comes bare and needs paint.

thanks to everyone for their input...I've since talked to a couple guys and have decided to come in off the ledge ;-D , as they too have told me that the bumper could be taken off and fiberglass could be fixed. but I have to ask-- why the huge disparity between the Ricambi bumper (~$6000) and the Prosport one, which if I'm doing my currency math right, is "only" about $2,500? is it just a money grab from Ricambi? I mean, I know there's the "Ferrari Premium" built in to all of this stuff, but really, it's not like Prosport is selling their bumper at break-even. I know this world is one of "if you have to ask how much, then you can't afford it", but I have to say, this pricing attitude which smacks of "we hose you...because we can" is the least attractive aspect of being a Ferrari owner. Oh well, as I told a friend yesterday, "No one sheds a tear for a Ferrari owner's problems!" ;-D

I think Roy Cats (sponsor) had one for sale when I was over at his office, but maybe it was for a scud.

I don't have any direct financial involvement with Prosport except for being a very satisfied customer of their company, plus I'm helping them build their website (work in progress) for more help/support on my car. I have had a lot of the work done on my car by those guys including a bare metal respray and racing parts fitted such as carbon brakes.

Remember the prices you see are the discounted prices (lower than RRP) that they get (and pass on) for bulk sales in Eurozone. Ferrari charges different prices for parts for different geo locations. To find accurate 'now' prices you need to contact them. The prices you see on the site i showed are for the official Ferrari genuine parts, not copies. I'm sure they also make copies too (and no doubt at half that price again!).

If you want true price comparisons CALL them up. They ship quite a lot of parts to the us, including supplying quite a few 'known' us companies...

If your bumper it to far gone. I'm sure you will be able to find one used with just a scuff or two. I had a used one shipped to me a while back. Very big box. Keep yur eye on ebay and etc. should run under 2k I would think.
