    Help with my 1991 Mondial,

Anyone have any sugestions on how I can trouble shoot why my dash lights work sometimes and then other times they dim from low to bright, and then they go out all together, everything else on that fuse works fine?

I also came across a new problem today, while backing out of my driveway I heard a strange noise comming from the front end, like two rods of some sort, hitting each other, or as if there was a branch hitting the underbody of the car, only in reverse, any thoughts?

Bad ground or fuse block? More likely a bad switch, try cleaning it including the rheostat.

The noise; did you look under the car? Maybe somethins' hangin' low.......

    Hi Darolls,

Would the ground be under the dash, or somewhere at the fuse box? do you think it could be the rheostat (dimmer switch)?

I also looked under the car as bset as I could given the low clearence, I didn't see anything.

    Thanks for you input,

    Malcolm.

Here's the easiest test for the ground. With the lights on, pound on the dashboard in different locations with the side of your fist.

If you find a spot where changes occur, you've found the approximate location of a bad ground.

Seriously, I've used this method many times!

Also, try using the rheostat to dim/brighten the dash lights.
If the lights act funky, the rheostat may need cleaning/replacement.

The noise; I'm stumped there. It could be a myriad of things.

Best to have it looked into though.

It might be something as simple as a loose brake pad, it's really hard to say.

I appreciate your feedback, I'll spend some time on it Saturday, hopefully I'll find something, I'll keep you posted should I find the problem.

    Best regards, Malcolm

Had a similar noise in the front end of my 355 spider, usually when backing out, or changing direction to pull forward with slight turn of wheel, would get a "clunk". It was the bushings that retain the steering rack to the chassis. New bushings and an alignment fixed it.
