Sending this car for PPI, but wondering if anyone could chime in about cost to fix dash.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was looking into a 458 with this exact issue and I did a lot of research. The avg cost is about 8.5k. Unfortunately it is the hardest part of the dash to remove. Ferrari will charge 8k to remove the dash without the upholstery repair. Hope this helps! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
To me that's the last option, not the first. Due you work, which you did getting costs, but seek out other options, they're out there, talking with a few other trim shops ) don't be in a hurry. The problem isn't that bad that you have to stop everything else to take care of this...you'll get it done. Better still, looking to be that buyer, you have all the leverage, I like that.
I agree, negotiate it in the purchase price. You could also remove the dash yourself and the cost would be much more reasonable Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Last year I replaced my 458 binnacle, from Ferrari with perfect match on leather and stitching was $1500, I did the work myself so no idea on labor cost. It looks like your issue is not the binnacle but your nearest dealer should easily give you a price.
Yes, you made me doubt myself though, $1723.22 with tax total, that was last March that I ordered it. To be clear, this is the leather cover not the whole thing.
If you are near Southern California, Los Angeles area there’s a guy that did my 430 and two 599’s that belong to guys on this Forum. They all came out perfect. He was way cheaper than $8000. PM me if you want his info. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Very common, as most do not condition the leather regularly, and the sun beats down on the dash from all angles when its out of the garage. S
Just had it done on my 458 coupe, cost was just under $4k with new leather and stitching. They also fixed the multiple broken posts that my dealer gave me for free when they replaced the airbag under the takata recall. Dealer's service guys rammed the glovebox into the dash and snapped off many of the threaded posts.
This may not be a popular suggestion, but consider replacing it with vinyl. Looking at it you won't see a difference and vinyl won't shrink from the sun.
But vinyl feels and looks completely different. The gain is different, just about everything is different. Its also thicker, I've seen it before and looks terrible.
I happened to look at some vinyl at an upholestery shop and could barely tell the difference. Perhaps they've improved the quality or there are differnt types of vinyl. I'm just looking to provide options and not looking to start a debate. Thanks, Rich
If it’s already apart and the labor and effort is the same, I don’t know why anyone would choose vinyl instead of leather to save maybe $100-$200 bucks…. Weird. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The leather binnacle above the tach is 2 only screws (do yourself) and $300 to the auto leather shop. The leather strip under windshield base will cost $9800-$8900 ($300/hr dealership labor cost). Basically all labor costs comes from taking the dash apart to get to the leather strip. What you do here is combine the leather strip repair cost with the sticky work (redoing every rubber part). The majority of the labor cost for the sticky will be from the dash labor having to come apart. While the dash is apart, it is much easier to remove the leather strip for repair. This will save you $6000 ish.
I got a quote from these guys. Around $3500 for the door and all three X's on the dash (regardless of the color of the X). The yellow X is showing how that piece needs to be replaced even though nothing wrong. I just want it to match the repair piece as it may be a shade different as its hard to match dye lots. www.yelp.com I got the car this way. When I had the car PPF'ed they told me this happens because of not just UV rays but also IR Rays from the sun and NO mount of leather conditioning/protecting will prevent. You need to block it. They recommended Xpel XR PLus tint including the windshield (clear). I never went through with the repair as it never got worse after the tint install.. The upholstery shop said it would definitely get worse within 6 months. Its been about 2.5 years and no change with the tint. I have a thread in here where I fixed mine. It is not for the faint of heart but was less than 100 bucks for the binnacle and the airbag.
