I have been working to figure out what to do about my dash starting to pull away from the defrost vents. I bought aluminum replacements and was ready to remove and have upholstery place try and repair as I thought it wasn’t bad yet and could be reglued and then new vents put in. Upholsterer was low on chances it could get fixed and said if needed replaced they could only do vinyl. Attaching pix of how they are now. Wondering if anyone has had theirs recovered and leather used and keeping of the stitching pattern as Image Unavailable, Please Login originally done. He said that they wouldn’t Image Unavailable, Please Login
be able to do stitching the same as now as that is a 2 needle machine and they can’t reproduce. Disappointed and looking for hope that it could be restored to like original… Image Unavailable, Please Login

Should be plenty of competent upholstery shops in buffalo. Try another one. This is not a difficult job once the dash is out. Any modern upholstery shop without a double stitch machine should be avoided.

I had similar issues on my 360 dash leather. I pulled it out and took it to an upholstery place. They were able to restretch it and did a full re dye it for dings around the cluster. I think I paid like $250. I installed the vents myself.

My thought on it was yeah if we’re gonna recover it why not try for a restretch and refinish, it can’t hurt.

If you can find the shop that the dealers use in your area, that’ll put you in the best position. The shop I used does all the leather work for exotic shops in my area.

To fix it correctly, the dash needs to be removed and the old leather stripped off. It’s probably just the front piece that needs to be removed.

New Italian leather and matching stitching is possible, I had it done on my F430. The first upholstery shop screwed it up and I had to have it redone. It takes a special sewing machine that can match the threads per inch. Not all shops will have that machine.

Then buy the metal vents from Rizzo here on this Forum. They mount with through bolts and large area washers for underneath the dash.

The problem with the OEM vents is that they are plastic and when the leather shrinks, the plastic mounting pins pop and break and there is no way to make them stay back in place.

I paid $400 to have the dash removed, $1300 for the new leather installed and stitched correctly, and $400 for the dash reinstallation. The metal vents were $275 from Rizzo. You will want to order these first because he’s in Australia and they take a while to get.

There’s several previous posts on this, if you try the Search function.

I found a guy that works at a Detailer’s shop that’s familiar with Ferraris. He R&R the dash in my garage, then took the dash to Los Angeles to his upholsterer. I couldn’t be happier. He did the same for a guy named Art on this Forum on his 599.

Shop around before you take it to a dealer. I couldn’t afford my car if I had to take it to the dealer for everything.

I pulled the dash myself on my 360, and with some Leatherique, plastic wrap, and the hot sun, it put enough suppleness back in the leather to restretch to the vents. So I didn’t have to replace it. I posted a thread about it. Might as well give that a try if keeping your existing leather is your most preferred option.

Classic coach does it - more like 6-7 k
    J. Scuderia takes it off and sends it out - about 5 -6

I’m having mine done at J. Scuderia as we speak.
I had the pieces made by Rizzo, powdercoated and got some nicer hardware, IMO, for the install.:D

    Yes sir.
I honestly don’t know where, but I was told they’ve done many and are excellent !!!
    Good Luck

ALSO, I have a new set of vents from Ferrari if you want them. I actually bought them before reading on here and learning about Rizzo. I’ve never read that anyone used new original plastic pieces, so I’m certainly not recommending them, just offering because I’ll never use em.

In my opinion the best option is to either DIY the dash or have the dash removed and the leather restored. Replace the vents with the aluminum Rizzo vents.

Total cost of mine was $300 for the vents, and about $20 worth of leatherique. Mine looks 100% OEM and brand new.

If you get it reupholstered, you risk the leather not matching, or the work of your poster not being up to par of what the original dash looked like.
By keeping the original leather and just having it rejuvenated, there's no risk, it will match 100% and best of all, it's free to do.

Took me about 3 hours to pull the dash.
I applied the leatherique several times over a week and the leather became super soft and supple and easy to stretch again then re glued it with contact cement, install the vents, applied clear ceramic tint to the windshield so this never happens again in the future.

I definitely commend the job that you did and I might have tried it 10 years ago, but I just did not want to do the job myself. When asking around, the companies that are experienced in the whole job, would not offer trying to stretch the leather and be responsible for any future problems. Also having the job done by totally experienced companies was what I was looking for.
    After all, it’s only a car :D

I would be curios to know what clear ceramic tint you applied to the windshield!
