Can someone tell me what the two small red and one white lights are on the center dash pod? I notice some cars have them and some do not. I have never seen mine light up. Are they for F1 cars? I looked the owners manual and do not see them listed.

Perhaps the early cars had these? The parts manual lists an NLA (2.7 car left hand drive) panel which was superseded by a newer left hand drive version.

I couldn't find any used panels available with the early part number (so no pictures of them).

Do you know if there is any wiring attached to the lights?

Mine had some kind of aftermarket radar detector type system that had small LEDs glued to these lights. I removed it all and assumed the lens were also added until I saw another car with them. Mine is a 96 spider.

    Ernest,

Most likely those are the LED lights for a K40-1000 radar detector or a K40-2000 radar/laser diffuser. The red LEDs indicate front and rear detection. The white LED is a bi-color LED which will glow green if the unit is set for HIGHWAY mode and yellow if set for CITY mode.

    I have a K40-2000 installed in my 550....

The red LEDs are in the spare switch. The bi-color LED is in the ashtray and the control/volume knob is in the driver's footwell.

Look for the control knob in the footwell. It might still be there. The sensor/diffusers might still be present. Look for the front sensor in your grill. The rear sensor is usually found inside the bumper.

Here's my front radar sensor/laser diffuser...

    Barry,
Thanks, that is exactly what I had. Someone went through a lot of wiring to put that system in my car. I got a bit nervous a couple of times removing all the wiring.

I forgot about the K40 detectors. I never had one, as I was an Escort guy that later moved to Valentine 1. Funny how I have seen a couple of other installs that look identical to mine.

    Ernest,

As soon as I saw the three LEDs in your center dash pod I knew what you had. My K40 was installed by the original owner when the car was purchased in 1999. It still works perfectly today as long as I keep the front sensor clean. When it gets dirty, the system lets me know by sounding a single chirp every ten seconds.
