Can you advise me? I am planning to recover the dash to my Dino. ( 00474 Freeman Thomas a previous owner. 4 CAM GT ) First, I am a little unsure because of recent discussions re original and original like dash covering. Can you confirm that the original covering was flocked ? All the material has been removd not just worn. Second, my car is the original Russo. How many different dash cover colors were offered or appeared on the cars. What color covering should my Dino have ? Third, I am not afraid to do a dash removal. However, while it seems straight forward, I don't want to be surprised with a project. Any problem with the removal ? Thank you for any advice. David
Only one color for the dash. My preference is the material from HVL in the Netherlands or what is referred to as "Henks". One word of advice I'll give you it that it is much easier to disconnect the vent cables at the ending point in the bonnet and pull them through rather than lying on your back and disconnecting from the dash.
Removing the dash is not really complicated if you work slow and carefully. Four slot screws are all that hold the dash in place, two on each end at the verticals and are seen/accessed from the door jambs. There is adhesive on the dash top at the center vents where you'll need to be careful when separating the plastic vents so as not to harm the plastic under structure. Also, Once the dash is free you will need steering wheel clearance to maneuver the dash out. This can be achieved by removing the steering wheel assembly by laying on your back under the steering wheel and unfastening the four 10mm bolts that secure the steering wheel to the frame. This will also allow you to free the steering wheel surrounding trim that will need to be covered with the same. EDIT: Your car is an early series and the above was for a 1972 and 1973 GTS I worked on. While I hope it is the same, I have no experience with the early cars. Early cars may be covered in Dino vinyl, not mouse hair so check the Dino Compendium
