I spoke to a guy that mentioned doing an economical dash repair since the dash of that car I'm looking isn't terrible.
He said they pull the defrost vents, cut a slit of somesort and resucure the vents back it. Evidently they come back to being flush (sometimes he buys new vents if they're too warped/bent)

I've heard of the expensive $5,000 leather refinish, but never heard of the cheaper fix.

As anyone seen this? Evidently they do it quite often, when it's just "slighty" pulled.

I think the dash needs to come out if the defrost vents need to be replaced/fixed. Plastic ones will get sticky again unless you refinished then with StickyRX as an option, or buy new metal ones. I think the plastic ones the tabs that hold the screws from the bottom of the dash pop as soon as the leather shrinks/moves. I'm assuming the guy you are talking to is cutting the leather under the vents to relieve the pulling before putting the vents back.

I can't speak to the exact steps, but I'll get more details when we speak tomorrow.
I could live with them as is, but I thought this would he a good cheap compromise. I'd be diligent of UV exposure and would treat the leather annually so I don't further the issue

Old ones will come out without an issue. Whether it makes sense to pull the dash depends on your specific goal and leather condition.

You can replace them with OEM if you cut the plastic pegs and replace them with "one way" inserts. If I did it again I would use smaller ones on the ends.

JB weld epoxy them in. (test fit below)

After adjusting holes in the leather with a tool I pressed them in and added rags to allow "memory" for a few days.
