I am getting ready to re-install the upper dash and inspected the wiring and came across two areas that I need some help with. Car is an 85 Mondial QV coupe (euro)...

The first is in the picture below where for some reason the red/black, black and green wires have been repaired and the green wire had a scotch lock (or whatever added). I am trying to figure out what that plug and those wires are for.

Instinct says to open up these taped areas, remove the scotch lock thingy and do proper spices but I'd welcome any insights on what this might be about...

The second "issue" is that I found this pink/black wire in a different connector with nothing connected. What is this for? Where should it be connected? Thanks - otherwise the wiring looks good on the upper dash

Mike - these are the wires in the top picture (which has the splices and the scotch lock):
    - Green
    - Black
    - Red/Black
    - Yellow/White
    - Green/White
    - Light Blue/Red
    - Yellow
    - Blue

I can get the colors of the wires for the connector in the second picture later this week when I get to my garage. Thanks for helping out - Joe

Found pink stripe black in a few places ( SN in the book) - fuel indication and low fuel warning. Also a link to throttle microswitch and connector for electronic ignition module, which is the ecu hidden in the rear left wheel well if i recall. Will do some digging on the rest and can send you the wiring diagram if u get stuck

Thank you - I have a few different wiring diagrams for 85 euro mondial from steve magnusson and afterburner and also saw the SN reference a few times. That is the second picture with the open molex connector - not sure what to do with that...On an 85 Mondial the two electronic ignition modules are in the engine compartment and this car has the magneti marelli 803a boxes. Would also like to figure out what the plug in the first picture is for and why those wires might have been repaired

My mistake - here's a blow up of the wires in the first pic (except for the green and black which are also in that connector) - I guess that wire is either yellow/pink or pink/yellow?

The 2 modules in the engine space are probably the coil packs, the ignition module is in the wheelwell behind the wheel liner from what i recall of my long gone 3.2.
These other wires are part of the tacho or speedo, not fully there yet

The only connector that I find that looks like the First picture =
Connector for the odometer/Clock/panel lights rheostat (number 58 on diagram) =
Black goes to electronic engine speed indicator and the indicator lights for fuel level/water temper.gauge/Oil pressure/oil temperature.
Green goes to electronic pulse generator for electronic speedometer. I do not see any split on the diagram.

Second picture = probably the connector that goes to the panel with switches for front bonnet, engine bonnet, front fog lights...
that wire pink/black goes to the warning light for front fog light indicator nr 44 on diagram...I dont know if your car has this front fog lights...

Guido - I will check numbers 58 and 44 (car has fog lights).

What do you mean "I do not see any split on the diagram." ?

Thank you for looking at this - Joe

Your picture shows a split of the green wire...on the diagram is NO split to see. Green wire goes directly from that connector to the pulse generator.

The only explaination I can find for the extra green wire is that a previus owner did put an extra speedometer with miles on it. Your car is a Euro so with the speedometer in km OEM and an extra in miles would be more safe to drive in the US.
I forget to tell that the Red/black wire also goes to the speedo pulse generator.

Guido - this is very helpful and your speculation on why there is an extra green wire makes sense as this car was in fact imported to the US in 1985 and "federalized."

I have no experience with electronic speedometers so I am going to assume that whoever made these changes knew more about electronic speedometers and speedo pulse generators than I.

Really appreciate your help here - if you remember, my car was non-running when acquired so I don't know if the speedo was working correctly.

I will open up these taped splices and check them, re-solder and add some heat shrink. Do you have any other recommendations on how to approach this?

    Thank you - Joe

Different to mine from what i recall, i dont recall them, if the car was running ok i did not go digging
. I know the single ecu box of tricks was in the rear left wheel well behind the liner

The 3.0+ 3.2 have a different setup from what i see on the drawings, the 3.2 is a single unit. Is your 1 unit or a pair ?

With Guido's help and using the factory wiring diagrams and colored version from afterburner, I believe this is the connector I was asking about...

Guido - can you please confirm? Thank you

For the second picture with the pink/black wire with the connector that wasn't connected to anything, I found this on afterburner's drawings which shows an unused pink/black - Do we think this is the wire I was asking about? Thanks everyone - Joe

This is a pic of the speedo which, given that this is a euro car, appears to have had the face replaced to prioritize MPH vs. km/h - Thoughts as it relates to Guido's speculation on the "extra" green wire. Why would they have to add a green wire to convert the speedo from km/h to MPH?
