During the Aussie GP he gave a shout-out to the group out there and thanked them for the use of a 260 Spider. Did anyone get to meet him? What was the event--I'm obviously a little out of the loop!

Hobbs said they rented him a 360 Modena.. I think he said for a week. I dont think it was an event, I think Hobbs was just in Chicago visiting.

Yes he was the guest speaker at the FCA event on Saturday a week ago at Continentals. I was very tempted to go there as the man is a legend.

Can you say "Nozzle schlamozzle"? :)

It was the annual VSCDA / FCA and added this year Autobahn spring get-together. Hobbs is, most definitely a legend in his own time, driving and winning in almost every type of sports car racing series there was. I remember seeing him race F5000 and Trans-Am series cars.

He gave a good talk, quite entertaining, as I expected. Hobbs has so many stories to tell, I think he has a hard time deciding which ones to use. :D

Did he ever drive a Ferrari race car of any kind? Just curious.

I always imagine him doing the early morning F1 races for Speed with a double whiskey on the rocks in his hand. It is quite obvious he is enjoying his role.

I love the current Speed TV group. Varsha, Matchett and Hobs are just tops. Sam Posey and Rick de Fool I had no use for. Which goes to show that being a race car driver doesn't automatically translate in great entertainer. I once had the pleasure of attending a speech by Derek Daily and the guy is a lot better with a mic than a steering wheel. Was a blast.

Not really: The 260 Spider is the turbo Diesel version of the 360 Modena for the Italian market which is ruled by engine displacement. Kinda like the 208 GTS.

Well he did drive the Sunoco sponsored 512M #1040 at LeMans in 1971 with Mark Donohue, he also raced a 250LM in the RAC series, 206S/P1 at LeMans and who knows what else? He competed at LeMans 20 times.

More likely G&T :D He does seem enjoy his life, in past and present tense.

Oh yes! That he is! One of the few remaining "Gentleman Racers."

The list of his endeavors is amazingly long, he was a TransAm and Formula 5000 champ, competed in F1, Daytona 24, Sebring 12 and the rest of the endurance runs, CanAm Unlimited 917's, 956's I believe and on........

I always appreciate a racer as a commentator, but he just didn't seem to fit in that team. The current three guys have chemistry and it is a joy to listen to them. At least most of the time. Their endless speculations to keep up the drama gets old fast.

He suffered a terrible accident including a Cognac sniffer and a cigar. A sad story really.
