Thanks, Marcel. Don't you agree it's an odd choice of auction house? Some nice cars mixed in with restomods.
Agreed. Although, from a buyer's perspective it's a plus. I've seen Ferrari bargains at Mecum, as it's not their strong suit. Might not be the case in Monterey however...
Not for Enzo era Ferrari. You can never be certain that a sale on the block at Mecum is an actual sale.
I remember seeing a Porsche 962 appear at 5 Mecum auctions over a 2 year period. It was always unclear whether the car had actually sold and its appearance at five sales certainly points in a certain direction!
The Rick Grant collection - 330GTS 11085 . I recall some others from that collection as well - perhaps a GTC? Could be that the prices were commensurate to the condition of the cars. Someone here may have more insight...
That GTS is beautiful. One of the last built. Lots of patina. And probably fairly rare w/ factory a/c. My dad's former GTS is coming up at RM in Monterrey. Nicer than the Rick Grant example. My dad and his buddy installed a factory spec a/c system with the help with parts from Li Rimani at Algar. The 330 GTS defines the perfect little convertible sports car. V-12, 5 spd transaxle, 50/50 weight distribution, easy and comfortable to drive..and with the top down?...OMG.
Actually I count 4 coming up in 3 auctions in Monterrey. Gooding has 10913, Mecum with the green 11179, and RM bringing two, the Medlin 9715 and my dad's former 10359. It is somewhat surprising to see 4 of 99 330 GTS examples hitting the block in the span of less than one week. But we all know we are just temporary caretakers of these beautiful machines.
Did not know about this one. Looks like a repeat performance for this one in Monterey. Interesting that it lost almost half a mil in auction value from 2015 to 2016. It looks like a very good, low mileage car. My least favorite exterior color though... Agreed about the color. Silver looks great on a GTC. Not so much on the GTS. I wouldn’t kick it out of my garage though.
Right. Wouldn't take much to respray in Azzuro Mettalico or Azzuro California (my favorite color!). I would do it with rattle cans if I had to... ;-)
10913 is the ex Bill Harrah car that was converted with the stainless steel targa rollbar and a large wrap around tinted glass rear window. See R&T mag 12/69. Bob Donner later had it from 1973 to 2013. A manager of Maroon 5 got it in 2013 and had the car re-converted back to regular 330 GTS Spider configuration. He later sold it in a package with a 250 Lusso, 275 GTB and a Miura to Mecum who then offered it in Monterey 8/15. 10913 was born Argento 25090 A with Rosso VM 3171. Marcel Massini
Image Unavailable, Please Login I chose Azurro Metallizato for my incoming 812 GTS. Ferrari just sent me a picture of the car on the line. Above is another similar AM car in the UK. Image Unavailable, Please Login
A great choice for the 812. Couldn't afford an Azzuro Ferrari, so I had my Superformance Cobra painted that color (was silver/Argento - not my "favorite"). A "poor man's Azzuro California". ;-) It's actually somewhat close to the the old FIA Cobra team color... Image Unavailable, Please Login
That’s a great looking Cobra!! Superformace builds great cars. My buddy has one in triple layer white.
10913 isn't a repeat performer, as it did genuinely sell in 2016 (though has been for sale on several occasions since). Curiously, Gooding are reusing the same photos, which seems like a lazy effort on a $2mm+ car.
Mecum sold the 330 GTS for $3.3m with premium in 2015 - top of the market when it also sold an ordinary Miura S for $2.53m. You have to log in to Mecum to get the sold price. I still think consigning cars there excludes a big chunk of potential buyers from Europe. But maybe those 2015 prices prove me wrong.
Yes, though since we all know you can't trust anything from Mecum, it's hard to say if they really sold the car in 2015, to someone that turned around to take a $800k+ loss in 2016, or if the car didn't actually sell in 2015 and then really sold at Gooding 2016. All I'm saying is that the car genuinely sold in 2016 and is now consigned back to Gooding from the purchaser.
