I know I should ignore the taunt, but I hate to think that impressionable people reading this site might assume that you know what you're talking about. The problem if you base your historical opinion on Ferrari literature, is that most of it is written with one eye firmly closed. History is written by the victors as the saying goes. The D50 was a Jano masterpiece and light years ahead of anything Ferrari had ever built. It arguably saved Ferrari from an early demise and gave them an easy world championship. All they did was put new badges on it, plus they built a couple of bodies with the pannier tanks faired in. Big deal. Next year, the Ferrari engineers, with a chip on their shoulder about Jano, reworked the car into the 801, discarding most of Jano's innovations and reverting to the architecture of the 625. Guess what happened, it was hopeless and Maserati won the championship.
they were scrapped. Unlike Ferrari's F1 cars, they couldn't be easily rebodied as sports cars and sold, because the offset drivetrain precluded a passenger seat.
