If Prodrive takes over the whole team/entry from Renault, technically it won't be a new team, so I can't see how the imposition of the Cosworth engine would work.

    Same about Sauber, BTW!

But it's good news as far as I am concerned.

The old Toleman/Benetton team back in British hands (with Dubai capital?) after a spell in French ownership. As far as Renault afficionados were concerned, it was always a British team, and never in the Renault structure anyway.

If that deal comes through, I am sure that Ghosn will be glad to get rid of it!

Red Bull should be worried. I suspect that Renault Engines at Viry-Chatillon will be closing down soon, and they haven't managed to secure the Mercedes deal they were hoping for.

Good for ProDrive and Renault, as Prodrive will probably get customer Renault engines on par with what Red Bull gets. Also good news for Kubica, as I would have not liked to see him without a seat.

Just one more case where a factory has chosen to leave F1 because it does not make financial sense.
If F1 management wants world factories to participate ( I do ) then it has to structure F1 to be economically viable. This means set and reasonable costs known upfront. A greater sharing of revenue. Agreed upon rules. No stupid fines.
A chance to win or at least not to look like fools; tighter grids.

Renault looks to be decided in bailing and Richards is pulling "a Brawn" in that its cheaper for Renault to subsidize him than pull the plug.
As far as a "Renault" engine. Valve cover castings are cheap.

I hope Richards does get Renault. I've always liked the guy, and think he brings tons of personality and drive to the sport.

I too will be glad to see David Richards get the team. Any rumblings in the rumour mill out there on whether he'll run the team as Prodrive or possibly use this to get Aston Martin Racing into F1?

That wouldn't do anything for Aston.

Just like Ford realised that people couldn't associate Jaguar with F1, the same would happen to Aston Martin; they are "sportscars" manufacturers and that where they are expected _ Le Mans, etc...

'NASCAR' formula then? Sure Brian France could take it over and put it right with his business model.....
