Hey guys. I just started a job Davidson, NC and will be here for the next two months. Can anybody recommend any neat places to go around here or in Charlotte? I already found the nearest Walmart, but the coolest thing I've found in Davidson so far is a store that sell garden gnomes.

You should come up to VIR Race Track near Danville Va. this weekend. Italian cars all over the place.

Thanks, I'll certainly check out Cornelius. I don't think I'll have time to get up to VA though.

Davino's is a great little pizza joint off of Griffith St in Davidson. It's in the small shopping center near the RR tracks. For a nicer (but still fairly casual) restaurant, try the North Harbor Club. http://www.northharborclub.com/ It's located at Davidson Landing, just on the West side of I-77 (exit 30). THey have outside dining right on the lake, and live music on the patio usually on the weekends. Great food!

A great bar/restaurant/hang-out is the Brick House Tavern. They are also located near Griffith Street and Hwy 115. They get a good crowd on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights.

Carolina Cones is a great little ice cream shop located just South of Davidson on Hwy 115 (on the right). There's also a Ben & Jerry's in Davidson that I'm sure you've already found.

For better night life, Vinnie's on the lake is just up I-77 (exit 33) go west (left). They are a few miles ahead on the right (located lake side). Midtown Sundries is in Cornelius, and it's also on the lake.

If you're into cars and driving (like most of us on this chat board), there are some great roads all around between Davidson/Mooresville/Cornelius/Huntersville and Concord/Kannapolis. Another nice drive is around Lake Norman on Hwy 150 West to Hwy 16 South to Hwy 73 East back to I-77.

Also, now that summer is here, there are quite a few informal car shows that usully occur on week nights. One is located at Kenton Place (exit 25 from 77). It's just past Birkdale on the right. They have a nice showing of mostly American muscle cars every Tuesday evening throughout the summer. The cars usually start showing up around 6:00pm. I've taken the Ferrari a couple times, but these guys are more into Mustangs, etc. Bob Sidi shows up most Tuesdays in a Lotus or Jaguar!

Best of luck. I think you will enjoy the area!

Thanks for the advice. I'm enjoying this place so far. It's way less scary than Baltimore, so some of my new friends and I have been exploring the town on foot. We found the Ben and Jerry's, which apparently shows movies occasinally. Somoeone also told me that Davidson College has a lake campus where there's kayaking so that's a possible destination. It seems like there's a lot of traffic but very few people around. The locals, though sparse, seem very friendly which is nice.

Just a bit East of Davidson County is the Uwharrie Mtns which has a lot of nice curvy roads that you can enjoy driving on. Their is a nice scenic road that I know of which goes to Badin Lake which is very curvy. Right now I can't think of the road. It also ends up near a one lane bridge at the Yadkin River and goes by a Big Parking lot in the middle of nowhere where cows now graze where hay bails are at now. I do not know why the parking lot was put there but nothing is near it for MILES and MILES. I just go out and find different routes in NC for a Sunday drive usually so that is how I found that area.

Check out VLK (Victory Lanes Karting) if you like Go Karts indoors and they are probably the fastest Karts in NC besides the VIR Karts. They have lots of Race tournaments at VLK but they are very competitive when racing Karts.

Davidson College had their graduation on May 14th. Most of the students are probably home for the summer. Foot traffic will pick up when classes begin in the Fall.

Lake Norman State Park is also pretty cool. http://www.ils.unc.edu/parkproject/visit/lano/do.html It's up in Troutman (exit 42). They have great hiking and mountain bike trails as well as camp sites, picknic areas, and the only public swimming access area on all of Lake Norman. I believe they also rent pedal boats and canoes there.

This week we checked out a Mexican restaurant in Cornelius, Concord Mills, and another really nice shopping center/movie theater that I don't remember what it was called. Also, I saw a cockroach for the first time in my life and I now sleep with the lights on.

The lights won't stop the coach roaches if you are sleeping. Not to worry though, unless you snore they probably won't bother you. There is a lot to do in the area you have settled. Only some of which has been presented. What are your interests? I did not know about the muscle car shows on Tuesday nights so I think I might upset the crowd with some Eyetalian muscle. One thing I know for sure, after being here for a year, you will not want to go back to where you came from. Bottle #3 for those that are paying attention.

I first met the roach when it crawled across my face while I was lying in bed. Actually I'm only here for two months. I'm working at Davidson over the summer. I'm loving the area, the shopping, the people, but not the bugs. Besides my roaches, there is an ant infestation going on on my desk. I'm trying to take a break from car stuff for a couple months since my boyfriend, Omar (aka Auraraptor), is abroad. My friends and I are pretty much into stereotypical girl stuff I guess. (Working out, shopping, movies, sunbathing, icecream). I'm definitely finding that once you get out of Davidson just a bit, there are things to do in surrounding areas.
