I've just bought my second 355. I'd like to take it for a longer drive than just down Memorial and Allen Parkway like I usually do. Do any of you in Houston have any suggestions for day drives around the Houston-Austin area? I'd like to get out of Houston a bit. Where do you take your Ferrari on the weekends?
Problem is the bicyclists. They are going further and further out and ride two abreast around blind corners on a two-lane road. I don''t have a map handy. But look for Burton off 290. Then look for a little road headed east. Enjoy.
Some of the roads around Round Top are nice. Better yet, do something like a barbecue tour near the famous bbq places in Luling, Taylor, Lexington, Elgin, etc. Lots of nice roads out there...T
I know you said to Austin, but there is a fun curvy road 'quickie' you can do off 290. Run out there past BW8. Exit off Bucee's. The side road that goes by Bucee's turns into an awesome curvy country road that comes out at Brenham. You can do the whole thing, out and back inside of an hour and a half. Easy peasy.
I believe you're referring to the Bucee's in Waller? Just wanted to clear that up for JGriff because there is a Bucee's in Cypress too. I believe the road you're thinking of is 362, but it runs up to Navasota. I don't know any road right there that runs directly to Brenham. While they're short little romps, Mueshke and Cypress-Rosehill are nice little fun roads just really really short lived.
I don't recall who the organizer is, but there have been Ferrari runs to Sam Houston National Park, north on 59 toward Cold Springs. Jgriff - I'm in Katy so if you ever want to blitz out 290 to try the abovementioned roads, I'm generally available ... pending family obligations.
We drove 45 up to SAM Houston national forest about a month ago on a Saturday late afternoon. Nice drive. Not a lot of winding run but the run through the forest is pretty. You should try it. As far as Austin plenty of area around the hill country like the Devils backbone that are very nice. Lots of places to stop along the way that are fun as well
I went on a drive with some local FCA members, following the attached route. Lots of long straightaways (you know what that means ) and plenty of twisties. Was quite a sight in my rearview mirror to see a 675 closing in BUT then to be passed by the McLaren and a GT2 and a 488 in one train, as I was accelerating past 120 MPH puts their horsepower in perspective!! I was on that drive too. I was in the 355 Spider behind the McLaren for most of the drive. I couldn't even come close to keeping up with him.
