13575 is being talked about in the values section.
Anyone know any more about this car, should this not be a plexi car?
Here is the text from the advert :-
    Chassis Number: 13579

The Daytona Spyder is undoubtedly the rarest variant of one of the most genuinely iconic sports cars of the 1970s, and we are proud to offer today Chassis no: 13579, originally delivered in Berlinetta form and owned shortly thereafter in the mid seventies by eminent Ferrari collector and authority, Mr Hartmut Ibing, who was to become President of the Ferrari Club of Germany. Mr Ibing also owned at the same time chassis no: 14537, an original 1971 GTS/4 Spyder in European specification, which was delivered new via Auto Becker Düsseldorf to its first owner in Germany.

From research by the current vendor and by paperwork in the history file, we find that Mr Ibing wanted his Spyder (the 1971 car numbered 14537) to carry a lighter aluminium Spyder body than its original steel coachwork. He therefore decided to have the original Spyder coachwork taken from car number 14537 and had a very light body in aluminium made for it.

Some 4 years later, in 1979, Mr Ibing sold his Berlinetta (number 13579) to Mr Rolf Schäfer of Cologne, another well-known collector of the era. In a letter to him, Mr Ibing pointed out that the car had not been driven in the last 4 years and thus showed a total mileage of only about 45,000 km, an uncommonly low total such as one might expect on a much younger car.

More importantly, the original factory Spyder body from number 14537 was included in the sale to Mr Schaeffer, and he proceeded to have it fitted to number 13579. The work was carried out by C.R.L. Panels (owned by Mr C.R. Lawrence) of Wymondham in Norfolk, but as can be seen from Mr Lawrence`s letter of 24th April 1979 to the new owner Mr Schäfer, the work was not quite finished at that date and it took C.R.L. Panels until early 1980 to supply the finished car to Mr Schäfer.

In his letter of 19th March 1980, Mr Hartmut Ibing, President of the German Ferrari Club, confirmed to Mr. Rolf Schäfer, that the Ferrari Daytona Berlinetta # 13579 wears the original Spyder coachwork from the Ferrari Daytona Spyder # 14537, establishing its provenance. Mr Schäfer kept the Daytona in his collection until his death in 1992 and the current vendor then inherited it from him.

The car subsequently went on to receive a substantial amount of restoration work in 1994 by specialists in Cologne, for which an invoice is available showing an outlay of DM 78.348. There are some more invoices in the file dating from 1997, and we are informed that in 2013 a new clutch was fitted and the car was re-painted.

In the last 22 years of the last owner's custodianship, the Daytona has only been driven a few thousand miles, mostly to local rallies and classic events in Germany. Today chassis 13579 presents itself in most appealing overall condition with excellent paintwork, good mechanics and a very nicely patinated original interior. It comes with German historic road registration documents, and a TÜV (government safety certificate) valid to August 2014.

In today's market, in which one of the122 all original Daytona Spyders would be valued at over €1 million - if one were available at all - the car on offer, which is 100% Daytona and carries the completely genuine stunning bodywork of one of these 122 Spyders (#14537), this car plainly deserves close consideration by serious collectors at the very attractive estimate at which it is being offered.

What an odd story. Maybe Marcel can chime in and shed some light on this. There are so many incorrect features based on the pictures from Coys.

It is bull****, my brother bought 14537 in the early eighties from Ibing, the car was apart but COMPLETE, the car was then brought to Toni Auto in Maranello who arranged the work to the body and interior, technics where done by Roelofs here in Holland.
Please do not forget when this was done every part was still on the shelfs at Ferrari.
my brother had already 2 Maserati Ghibli spiders restored and his daytona coupe, so he was aware of some rust problems with these cars , so he asked Franco (Toni Auto) to protect the steelwork of the car , as far as I know the car was dipped in a bath of zinc to protect the car for the future.
I have pictures of the car of how we bought it to proof.

The story Coys claims is completely wrong and 14537 today still wears its first body in steel and not in alloy as mentioned by Coys. 14537 is also certified by Ferrari Classiche and the certificate clearly states that 14537 has still its original body.

Coys is fully aware of the real facts at least since Thursday last week but - for now - they choose not to react accordingly. It seems that they prefer to cheat people rather than act in a faithful way. Let's wait and see what happens...

    Regards

    Hi Bjoern,
If you add to this the story of the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500, in same catalogue, as commented by John de Boer in AlfaBB , this catalogue and auction will be interesting to follow!

Lot 125 is withdrawn now. As I said before, wait and see what happens...

    More to come.
