Race is on Fox, thus no need for those crappy F1 stream links. Green flag scheduled for ~ 1:29 Eastern / 12:29 Central. Plenty of other tidbits found here: http://www.jayski.com/news/races/2012/story/_/page/01dis2012info The bad news: http://www.racedayforecast.com/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm really looking forward to the race as usual but not the 1.5hrs of prerace coverage that starts on Fox at 11am Central. Speed started about 7am this morning with some type of coverage. My sister-in-law is a huge NASCAR fan and she wants to rent an RV one year and do the whole week thingy.
At least we get it live...... [Although, I'm planning on piggybacking off my boys Sky feed for their iPad (etc) application if it seems worthwhile.] Poor little darlings can't possibly run on a mildly moist track! I assume the infield grass turns into a Watkins Glen style bog at this point? Nice! Incidentally, will they run wets on the road courses? IIRC, they tried it and nearly everyone fell off - Some numerous times? Cheers, Ian
From Autosport; Hopefully they'll get 'er done today. But it sure seems we're in for *hours* more talking head BS! Cheers, Ian
Might need the full wets and the wipers. http://nascar.speedtv.com/article/cup-rain-threatens-daytona-500-nascar-sprint Image Unavailable, Please Login
The slope on that track is extreme. They NEED friction and a fast speed just to stay up on it. Reducing that with rain tires is not practical.
Sounds reasonable. But the first thing I thought of was the old Monza track. It was 45 degrees. Daytona is only 30. Just sayin' Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dump a cup car 200MPH on a wet track, the tires wouldn't even be touching pavement as their sheer speed would keep them off the track until it lost momentum. Watch some offroad racing where they float their cars across ponds without sinking due to their speed. F1 vs Nascar in the rain, the F1 cars have HUGE downforce that helps shove them through the water, the F1 cars also are driving at much much lower speeds. Charlotte Motor Speed way sees 190MPH+ average lap speed, and they cannot take that track flat out even in the dry in good conditions. There are many F1 circuits, where the cars probably don't even hit the average speed of the NASCAR on a speed way, or super speedway.
While I understand what you're getting at it seems to me there's a pretty simple solution; Slow the **** down! *******! Cheers, Ian PS - Seems tits passes the sniff test, but ***** is a no no!
"The Daytona 500 has been postponed until noon tomorrow. It will be shown live on Fox. This is the first time the race has ever been bumped a day."
Yep and I'll miss it b/c of work. Monday isn't looking much better though: http://www.racedayforecast.com/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'd like to do the RV thing, I have a few friends that do, but I won't do Daytona, too many people, I'd rather do Bristol, or Phoenix. However, if the Porsche factory ever got back into it like the 917/956/962 days, I'd love to camp out for the 24 hrs of Daytona. Too much weight also. How long was that chunk of Monza? Also, 45 degrees is better than 30 in this respect, it's like driving ON the wall, sideways. That defeats the purpose, doesn't it? 'Whoever is the fastest slow car wins'.
I had a really fun day at the track yesterday. Now I'm torn between just sitting back and watching the 500 tomorrow on TV or going back and picking up a cheap ticket from someone that can't use theirs. Monday Night Racing! Because it is still raining in Daytona, but it is supposed to stop by 4-5 PM, FOX has announced that the start will be delayed until 7 PM EST this evening. So if, like me, you couldn't have watched the race this afternoon anyway, Mother Nature has given us a reprieve.
Crap its STILL raining but good news anyway, well only if the rain stops soon enough for the 2hr drying process. Preparation for Phoenix will be quite hectic.
