This one 14333, has just had the leather dash replaced, with new leather, i spoke to the mechanic at the company selling the car [ it's just sold], and he said "leather was option"! Make of that, what you will, i know it's not proof but it's adding up. How's this for an option, the Sultan of Brunei who owns one of the 7 RHD cars, had a power roof fitted by pininfarina, and fuel injection when he bought the car in the late 80's , below is a black and white pic of the car, before he bought it. I would love to see how the roof works. Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The bw photo shows 14371 but this photo was taken in 1971 already. The original owner was Robert Michaels who had the car repainted when brand new, from the original Azzurro 106-A-32 into all black, before he even took delivery. The modifications you mentioned were only done in 1989 and have nothing to do with an option. Marcel Massini
Sorry Marcel i should have said "how would this have been" for an option. The rest of my info is correct i think. I did say the roof was done for the sultan in the late 80's, and the B/w photo was from before he bought it. Grant
Is this original, it looks like leather? Happy New year everyone. Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login
If Ferrari had made a '70s competitor to the Lincoln Marks and the Cadillac Eldorado, this interior might have been a popular catalog item! Candy cane, anyone? Fred
Here's a couple more interesting Daytona dashboards! Now we need more pic's of black leather/ vinyl dashboards please. Grant Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Hi Ed. Guess it's snowing with you too, and you are also bored. The red "Yuck" car, was featured in Thoroughbred and Classic cars, Oct 83, that's where i found the photo and the feature was on two cars owned by William Loughran, his Red UK Spyder his red Coupe, which had just had a rebuild, [ i don't know if he still has these cars]. The red coupe i believe was 16827 and not yours i think. Check out the pic of your car and IanB car [ before it was blue] from the book you mention, and look at the side of the seats and head rests, yours where red, and alot more tasteful, Williams car looks cream. I hope you won't be too disappointed [i am guessing not]. By the way i love your cars, especially the black one with 9inch all round, Looks Great, i hope to see it one day? Grant Pics 1st Yucky one 2nd yours from the book 3rd pic from the article with the Spyder to. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes that's the one Randy. Both Autokraft conversions, both had there color changed to green and then to blue, mine is now painted, almost the same shade of blue as Ian's, spooky! Grant PS both with leather dashboards to.
Marcel - many thanks for the additional info, these tally with build spec info we obtained from Tony Willis Grant - William Loughran brokered #16635 to London based David Morrison, subject to a colour change from white, to black. William Loughran owns both a coupe and a spyder, but cannot confirm these are the ones you describe. Ironically, having sadly lost out on the Goodman/Sheehan #12681 Comp Daytona upgrade, one of the cars we viewed...on more than one occasion, was 5UKX, which thankfully has now found an enthusiastic, cherished home with Ian B. Grant - I look forward to seeing Mike's completed handywork during 2010 Ed
Ed. You are welcome anytime, in fact i am going up next Friday if the weathers ok. You would be most welcome to come along if you fancied a seek preview. Here's another one, 13987, 72 euro model, so far to the best of my knowledge every one i have found, has been a Euro model! I am trying to post photo's of dashboards that i am fairly sure are leather/ vinyl. There are a lot more out there that look to be leather but i cannot be sure so i am leaving them out. Here are three more cars with leather dashes. First one is mine (16333). Second car is 16393 and 3rd car is 16447 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Tom. Would you happen to know if the other two are euro models, I know yours is from what Marcel said. I just wondered if there may be a link/ preference with Euro cars, or maybe Europeans had them changed to suit their taste, as most cars of the era and before, Aston martins, MG's, Jags etc had leather dashboards. As Ed said what we really need to find is a period photo of a new car with a leather dash. Please keep posting you leather dash photos, as the more we have the merrier. Here's another 1973 Euro car with what looks to be a leather dash, check out the reflection of the clock on the side of the pod and the side of the glove box cover. Grant, I understand what you're trying to ascertain here but I think you're going to a lot of trouble for little purpose. Perhaps buyers in 69-73 could specify leather when they ordered from the factory, but nothing here convinces me. All the pictures show retrimmed cars IMO. When DMS ordered my car, he specified a very particular trim combination, which the factory ignored - apart from unpleasant red woollen seat trim! If I were you, I'd try really hard to find a roll of the original fabric - someone somewhere might have a roll on a forgotten shelf. Then liberally soak the trimmed dash in Raven oil before fitting, which will stop the fading and water marks. I did this with the 246 I restored in 1986 and it still looks good today, although the nap is worn off in various places. If not, the reproduction fabric is at least highly durable. People will know your car has been retrimmed, but they won't be saying "tut, tut, they've put leather where it shouldn't be" Ian ps. I do enjoy looking at all these Daytona pics!
