Hey all- I know December is a long way off, but registration fills pretty quickly...

Anyone wanna drive the full Rolex road course at Daytona??

I drove this event last year, and it was GREAT. I'm going again this year! The event is run by the Audi Club (but open to all), was very well run, good driving time, and YES - 31-degree banking!

    - It's the FULL 3.56 mile Rolex 24 road course - no speed restrictions or goofy chicanes (just the real bus stop)
    - There were more non-Audis than Audis (mostly 911's) - our Ferraris (and all makes) are welcome!
    - non-club members must join, via the registration ($44)
    - No convertibles, but targas are ok if you're below the roof-line (my 355 GTS was fine)
    - Be sure to let the organizers know if your Challenge car doesn't have a passenger seat - you'll get solo'd fine
    - There were 4 run groups: 1) Pro/Instructors, 2) Instructors, 3) Advanced Students, 4) Students
    - There were about 8 pro teams using the weekend as extra test-time for the Rolex
    - Same basic rules as FCA events. I was solo'd after 2 runs in group 3 (by Chief Instructor no less)
    - 4 runs one day, and 5 on the other
    - This year they "claim" a 3-day event, but I'm not sure if all 3 will be on-track (price is same as last year)
    - Hotels are reasonable and near by

    Hey Rob!

Missed ya the second day at Summit, rained for a while then all was good. Thanks for the heads up on this. You trailer your car down?? Another member gave me some 411 on a cheap trailer rental.

Thanks, all - yes, the pictures I got from the event were really great - they're from Sideline Sports Photography.

I'm still getting my teeth repaired from rattling out at Summit! :) I saw the picture thread from the second day - looked nice in the afternoon, huh?

Anyway, I had my car transported last year - didn't want to deal with a trailer. So, perhaps if we can drum up a little gang from No. VA, we can get a better rate on the transport and direct track deliver and pickup. That said...if anyone has an extra spot on a trailer, that could work too!

Oh man - that's not good. Now I have to consider going to both!!

Everyone REALLY should consider going to either of these. You can't imagine the "holy crap" feeling you get standing at the bottom of the banking, looking up, and realizing you're about to drive this sucker! The G's you pull around the banking is just amazing.

Well, I'm already registered for the Audi event in December, so I'll probably stick to that one. Unless, I suppose, any of you are headed to the Nov event - then, I may try to change.

Then again, I have Skip Barber at Road Atlanta the weekend before that in Nov.

    Decisions, decisions...

(The Audi club was the first to do a DE event at Daytona (apparently, outside PCA club racing events). Nice to see it opening up to other clubs!)

Daytona is an awesome place. Everyone needs to visit it to see the scope of that banking for themselves. I was lucky enough to visit a couple times for different events when I lived down there. My favorite time was a bicycle event fundraiser. We were right on the track and very much in awe of the size of the track and steepness of the banking...
