My 1972 Daytona needs a new exhaust system. It is difficult or expensive to find a full NOS system. The Tubi is really, really expensive (like 9K...ouch). I have been told to stay away from the Sterbo.

I have heard people have bypassed the two sets of mufflers under the cockpit and run straight pipes to the rear silencers. I am open to this idea but do not want a car that is too loud. I am open to this idea or other quality exhaust systems that might be available.

    Thanks.

Straight pipes in the center section and the stock type resonators in the rear gives a really great sound. At idle and lower revs it is not loud, not intrusive at all. But over 4000rpm it screams and over 6000 it takes on a brutal howl.

Local midas shop did mine. They welded on really nice looking brackets and mounting using the factory hardware and it looks great, cost about $300.

Do you want/need a USA or Euro system?

And, by exhaust system, do you mean the tail pipes, center section, headers or all three?

You can also fix your current ones, or send them to Gary Bobileff and he can usually fix the rust problems.

Or, if you want to get a bit creative, pm me and I'll tell you how to make USA C/4 center sections and Euro Daytona Anza tail pieces work for USA Daytonas with a little bit of work.

I did this on my '72 Euro Daytona. Definitely louder, but sounds great.

However, I do have dyno data that shows on a similar car, that removing the center mufflers and replacing with straight pipes can hurt your torque from 3500 RPM to 5000 RPM. It also hurts HP over the full range. YMMV. My experts say that removing the first muffler removes a beneficial mixing that occurs there.

To preclude this on my car, I am having crossover pipes welded in between the two separate pipes on each side. I may have dyno data on my engine next week.
