This would be a good question to post on the Daytona Registry web site:

    www.ferrariregistry.net

Lots of good info there, and lots of other Daytona owners to chat with.

Nothing specific to add, but does that mean that you've tried the 10-11 deg BTDC spec (for R1 only) from the '72 US manual and are not pleased, or note a problem? If you adopt something (significantly) else then you might need to make a change in the dist adv. mechanism to keep the total advance at high RPM on target.

What's your configuration? Are you minus the other US emission equipment?

    (and I thought the 308 R1/R2 stuff was written/translated poorly and/or unclearly)

Just got the car and currently tuning it up. As it is, has a static timing set up at almost 18-20 btdc !!! And both banks weren't even in synch. Suprisingly it idles well , revs decently until you reach 3500 rpm where it stumbles and becomes rough. The AF mark shows 12 degrees and AM @ 36. I'm in the process of securing a service manual so I dont have any specs right now. Appreciate any assistance.

Sounds like you've got some of the typical fettling issues to address. You should definitely register at www.owners.ferrari.com and download the available 365GTB4 Owners Manuals -- much good technical stuff. However, it can take a little while to get registered so if you send me a PM with your email address (and can handle getting a 3.1 MB .pdf file) I'd be glad to send you that '72 US stuff I have (I can't even recall why I downloaded it -- wish I needed it ;)).

Your US Daytona seems to have the same air injection set-up as the carbed US 308s so you should either make it all work as intended or remove it all --there's just no sense in leaving the air injector nozzles obstructing the exhaust ports if the air pump isn't present/working (but don't remove the fuel evaporation control system).

    Welcome aboard!

It's most important that the total advance is observed and tested.... NOT just the static.

Running more advance at very low rpm gives a good increase in torque, but the range must be reduced to maintain MAX advance at a level to match your engine condition, spec and fuel quality.
