It looks like one of my fan motors has bit the dust.

After opening it up it looks like an internal wire came in contact with the armature. So far no luck fixing it. Appears pretty burnt.

Does anyone know of a source for these motors. Would prefer the correct thing but any motor that would attach to the fan blade and bracket should do.

    Anyone been through this before?

Many of the owners on this site have given up on "the Prince of Darkness' motors, any Auto Zone or Pep Boys will have terrific, cheep and thin very powerful fans that in pairs will keep these engines cool at a fraction of the power consumption. You will note them on many cars if you look carefully through the egg crates Michael Bayer #9727 & #14947

    Thanks Michael,

I may eventually go that route. The fan motors on my Daytona are Marelli "three eared" and not Lucus (Prince of Darkness).

Right now mine is at a local alternator shop and we will see how that goes. I suspect the armature or stator is shot.

I got a nice PM from a gentleman with a source in CA that repairs these types of motors and if the local shop here has no luck may give him a try.

NOS Marelli fan motors are available but at $800.

Interestingly enough, my Daytona runs very cool and except when sitting in 100 deg traffic only requires the fans. I could get by on one and just let the other sit there as a dummy. However I know eventually this would eventually get to me and I'd end up doing something about it.
