    Hi all:

I am finising up the interior on my Daytona and am having trouble fitting the radio in the center counsole. I secured a Blaupunckt Kohn stereo from Germany (which I believe to be one of the two correct stereo for the Daytona). It has two pieces (see photo and the installer cannot seem to get both pieces (or even the main radio) into the space. Can anyone help with this for me?

I would appreciate any replies to my email address below so I can view them on my Blackberry.

    Thanks.

Joe, Radios were dealer installed items, so there is no SET radio, but the period radio of choice is the Becker Mexio radio with casette. Regards, Mike

I recently installed a two piece Becker Mexico AM/FM Cassette radio. This has a separate amplifier unit. I used velcro to fasten the amplifier part on the top of the "hump" just forward of the ash tray, under the leather covered hump cover.

The radio went into the holes cut into the hump cover as shown in your picture. Be sure that there are no cables lying on the floor under the area you want to put the radio. THere is barely enough space. In fact, the antenna coax had to make a sharp bend. I looked for a 90 degree coax adapter but could not find one.

Other people, who are willing to remove the hump cover first have placed the amplifier unit on the driver's side of the hump; I have other items there so that would not have worked for me.

You may have to enlarge the holes for the radio to get it to fit into the cover.

    Good luck

    Tom

    Hi Joe,

You have to cut the hole bigger for that style radio and the amplifier sits below. I have a Becker Mexico in mine and it is very similar. Before I cut the hole I would make sure the Becker Mexico would fit as I think it might be the prefered radio.

The face plate of the Becker mexico appears to be 2 1/4" X 7 1/8" so the hole would be a little smaller. How does that line up with what the hole size would be for the Koln?

Here is the Becker site you might get the dimensions from:

is your car a euro or usa model?
radio in your picture is a euro model, it would not have been available to a usa dealer.

When the Daytonas were new/near new I remember several in Los Angeles using the Blaupunkt Berlin (control head on the stalk). What that be considered a correct choice too?

My car is a USA car. I am quite certain the radio is correct for the car (many are as they were dealer installed). I am just trying to get it to fit correctly.

    Thanks.

I think those date from the late 70s at earliest.

    Thanks.

I just realized the 'sideways' orientation of the Daytona radio. I have a Becker Europa 'Vertical Scale' radio on ebay now.

Pretty rare radio, comes wtih the amp. I had the ipod conversion cable built, but it is not required, operates totally separate as per user choice. Maybe this will help you or another.

I'm currently in the hunt for the correct Pioneer 4300 for my Boxer in case one pops up.
