    Hi

It just seems to be taking forever! I don't know if you have ever done any do it yourself house renovating, but its a bit like that. You can spend nights and weekends for weeks working on a particular room or part of the project and every time the wife comes in with a cup of tea at the end of the day she says'' what have you been doing today?'' You reply...''well i've been putting in this new lintel but you can't see it'' or ''i've been planning and installing the wiring circuit, but you cant really see it'' etc.

Then one evening when you haven't really done a lot of work but you have splashed on a quick coat of paint primer on the walla she says '' Wow it's really coming on now, haven't you done well!''

Attached pics of re-skinning the boot, starting leading the body and setting shut gaps, ( I hope).

    Hi!

It was a server crash that lost the other photos......

Also having a new LogIN to avoid the 5MB limit is defined as "multiple LogINs and does violate terms of site..

Sadly, they normally do not offer credit for images lost so you'll still be assigned for them..

They'll ban your new ID when they notice........

Best of luck to you though, this project proves my personal motto:
    "Never dismantle a functioning machine"........LOL!

Once a wreck or blown mechanical failure occurs I dive into it!

Salute to your comprehensive efforts, and for sharing them with us....only by looking in these dark corners does the Ferrari become 'your' machine!!!!

If you are not the first, you have to be THE BEST! ;)

Rock on brother! One of these days I'll make it to Goodwood!

F308Man is tempting me to the Isle of Man TT and LeMans journey....maybe so.

    Yes, good analogy.

Having done both (including moving a house) I know what you mean about perceived and actual progress.

As 'leading' involves heating panels, what happens to the metal on the inside, ie. I assume any primer/protection would burn off?

I guess cavity painting would be required afterwards, and should occur anyway.

Hmmm ... love to know how to do it.

    Thats a good question Pete.

I am going to ask Mike who has been rebuilding the car.

Isn't the answer therefore based on whther you are keeping or selling on completion - or at least after it wins the FOC concours if its finished in time !

Having said that there's a lot of red Daytonas out there and its not really the best colour but then you need to match the interior too so.....

Yes, you have hit the nail on the head, that is the issue. I wonder if I went for a non Ferrari colour if that would effect the price if I subsequently decided to sell, you reckon yes even if the car looked good in that colour?

Can't answer that but ask Paul Baber or Mike Wheeler at Rardley

One of my cars makes a good argument for steel gray; subtle and elegant.

Paint code is readily available too ;)

I suggest the original colour. But I guess that was red anyway.

...I'm thinking Miura Tree-Frog Green would be a "bad" choice.

    Great thread: Thanks.

I agree with Shannon, unless the original color was hideous. Hopefully it was red or silver. Both are good for resale. What color interior are you going with, or does that depend on which exterior color you choose?

    Hi Tim,
Long time since i've been over here, looking good!
Was the car red originally? it looks that way, and also twice subsequently!
I too am not a lover of red either and would go for for dark mettalic grey(grigio ferro mettallizato 106-E-8) on my Dino. But it was originally black and thats the colour it's going to have to be!
See for yourself my technicolour dreamcoat!!!

If you're going to keep the car, go with your heart. Dark metallic grey looks great on these cars. Burgundy, red or tobacco interiors would complement the grey nicely.

Whatever colour you paint it, make sure it is a genuine Ferrari colour of that period ... thus it will not affect resale as much.

If you paint it a non-Ferrari colour ... hmmm, you will regret it IMO. Surely there is a genuine period colour that you would like :).

My advice to customers was always if you intend to keep the car have it done in whatever colour you want, if you want purple with pink spots, then paint it that way. You will only want to spend the money once - it's pointless paying that sort of money and have niggling doubts about not being entirely happy. Chances are if you like the colour combo so will other people.
If, however, you can see yourself selling it in the next few years then definetely go with the original colour for the car, imo red is not necessarily the best seller, I think the market has moved on since the eighties!

Register at the Factory site with the VIN and they can confirm original color interior and exterior in the My Garage section..

Then a Heritage Certificate will validate that choice, if you like it..

At this point original is best IMO, unless it's of no financial concern......

Then go with the changable color paint and some flames or lace edged stripes!

j/k.........paint it your favorite color if you want, I'd agree with observation on Ferrari color of the period, there's really a huge selection there....

Your guys actually work very quickly...
