I have no idea which section this should go into, so as I'm thinking about my 575 I'll start here. Are Daytona seats the same as standard seats but with striped inserts?
If so does anybody know of an automotive trimmer/upholsteror who reproduces such inserts.
Surely there would be demand to thus retrofit Daytonas without having to buy whole new seats and scrap your originals?
If there is more to a Daytona seat then there is no point adding new inserts, but if not, then why not ?
    Thoughts please?

I have heard that, although the insert design is very attractive, SOME people find them less comfortable than the standard seating. I like the standard seats on my 456M a lot and I can't see any improvement in the comfort department with Daytona inserts, cool looking though they may be. I haven't done side by side comparisons, so I would defer to those guys who have.

I must confess I have given thought to that hypothesis. After searching for a while I came up empty. Not sure if it's feasible or technically possible to change standard seats to make Daytonas out of them, but I'm pretty confident that if it is indeed possible, there must be someone in the States who provides that service, and/or an old and obscure italian master if you live in Europe.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Graham- There are dozens of places in the UK who can do that. Just ask one of the main Ferrari dealers who they recommend, or one of the Ferrari restoration shops. Not sure if the seats are the same except for the inserts. Will try and take a look at some photos.

I have often wondered about this myself but have not been able to find the answer. I think the inserts give the 550 cabin some much-needed visual interest.

    Glad i'm not alone guys.
I'll do some research...then probably run away at the cost !
Would certainly be one of those things that would have to be done really well or not at all !

Hey guys, just a quick question, as you know the 456 front seats, the seat belts are attached to the seats, I am looking to replace them with a set of custom racing seats, but can't seem to find anything in the market with the regular type seat belt attach to it, any ideas , any thoughts?

    Graham,

My conclusion (although not definitive!) was that the 575M standard and Daytona seats are the same structurally, functionally and feature the same quality of leather.

Ferrari asked quite a lot for the Daytona inserts option (not sure if they charged even more for a deviating colour) which is presumably why they aren't more commonly found on the 575M my guesstimate would be that less than half of the worldwide fleet has them?

[They appear to be even less common on the 550 as far as I can determine]

I would therefore imagine that having a set of replica Daytona insert seat covers fitted to 575M seats would be readily possible but I would imagine that anything less than perfection could take the shine of this upgrade.

An outfit like O'Rourke Trimmers would be a good place to make some inquiries...

So are they genuine 456 Daytonas and 456 standards?
In which case the seat does seem the same, just with a different insert.
Maybe also the case for Maranellos?

On a 456 the seats are the same except for the Daytona design in the seat cushion and seat back

I have often pondered this transformation myself and have done the proper research

The leather seat covers are available from Ferrari parts dept- So any authorized Ferrari parts dealer can order the leather and you can have any competent upholstery shop do the work

The other option is to duplicate the Daytona straps yourself; however, in order to do that you need a special set of tools and punches to duplicate them properly.

If you check the shops that restore the 7 figure cars of the 60's & 70's and do those kinds of interiors, you may indeed find but a few shops in the US that are capable of this work

I spoke to O'Rourkes, I got the feeling that it wasn't really their thing as they are very busy with trimming the older cars. It did not sound a straight forward job and will depend on the condition of the seat. That said, they were very helpful and said if I send over a picture of my seats they will let me know if it is possible. They said a gentleman with a 550 had approached them and that the job had not been possible due to a vertical seam in the seat.

Perhaps not surprising that the top shops are always busy and may be working on cars worth seven figures but I noticed this Porsche 997 on their site where they say that they invested 200hrs on a full colour change from grey to tan so I suspect that anything is possible...

Not sure if your starting assumption is that you would hope to replace just the seat cushions and lumbar support areas or if you anticipate replacing the entire seat coverings (e.g. including the side bolsters and headrests to match)?

I was hoping you could replace the leather covering just the seat cushions and lumber support. I was also hoping that the rest of the seat (bolsters/head rests etc) was the same between "standard" and "daytona" types.

Not sure why it hadn't occurred to me to look before but I just called up the parts catalogue on the Ricambi site and we can see that the parts you are looking for are clearly separate parts and they are theoretically available (in pairs)!

    Ferrari 575M Parts : Table 122 - ELECTRICAL SEAT - SAFETY BELTS

    575M: Table 122 - ELECTRICAL SEAT - SAFETY BELTS

Table Ref No.6 Part No.672830.. 2 CENTRAL CUSHION -DAYTONA- -Optional- Call for price

Table Ref No.12 Part No.672832.. 2 SEAT BACK CENTRAL -DAYTONA- -Optional- - Call for price

Doubt that you will find anything on the shelf (too many permutations of leather and stitching colours etc.) but potentially still orderable from the factory if you are happy to wait (ask Thrasher how long it's taking to source trim parts to compelte his roll cage installation).

Perhaps the diagram would give a trimmer confidence that the job is doable but you would have to be pretty sure that the quality of leather offered and the colour/finish was going to be a good match. You could have the residual parts refinished to match but that bit harder if you have contrasting stitching.

Good luck and remember to report back!

Brilliant, well done. I think that answers all my questions and like you say it should be possible for a competent trimmer to do the work.
I don't know when I will look to do this or if the cost will be prohibative, but now I am pretty sure it can be done. I'll make enquiries as to prices and post updates when i get answers.
    Thanks All

The cost of these is probably prohibitive...
