Anyone have any information for determining the shop responcible for a Daytona conversion. My daytona appears to be a very high quality conversion with frame rail strengthening and reinforcement at the rear clip. The history I have for the car doesn't help. Thanks

A chat with Michael Sheenhan a few months ago indicated that neither he, nor Straman ever did any cut cars using the chassis upgrades. He said that customers didn't want to spend the considerable extra cost. Mike also said he'd never seen a conversion with this. Consequently they're pretty rare in the world of cut coupes. I've heard only about six cars have all this work done, but have no way to verify that.

My car was done by Bacchelli's Sport Auto in Modena, Italy, and has all the chassis work done. This is an extensive undertaking that requires a considerable amount of car disassembly, and judging from the paperwork, it took them months to complete it.

Sport Auto is the only shop I know of that went to these extremes, although there may be another unknown to me. Have you read my article on this subject in Forza? It gives photos and sketches of what to look for.

Bill, I have first hand experience with a straman car that had significant structural reinforcement or side rails, firewall and underbelly. I was under the impression that that was one of the characteristics of straman cuts vs. some of the others. I am sure Mike knows far better than I but at least two cars that I know of were strengthened in this fashion by Straman.

The car lives in Northern California #15601

I check with Sheehan and he didn't do it.

    Stramann is cruising the world.

    Any other ideas?

I will read the Forza article for clues.

    Thanks, all.

Gerald Roush (of Ferrari Market Letter) wrote a book on Daytona's, which I believe contains some information on conversions. You might try either finding the book, or contacting Mr. Roush directly at FML.
