    Does someone have a firm idea of how the underside of the Daytona was done at the factory.
    Two questions: 1) Some available photos appear to show (satin?) black paint somewhat casually sprayed on the frame and perhaps just overspray on the tub and other underside areas. Help!
    2) "Undercoating"; was it used on the early cars and, if at all, where?

    While I wasn’t around or near the factory or Scagliettis plant when Daytonas were originally constructed, my experience and research, including close personal inspections and photo-documentation of several unrestored examples has shown that most engine bay, frame/underneath, cabin & trunk interiors along with all other “black-outs”, including engine bay & trunk rain gutters, bottoms of front & rear valances + rocker panels and few other smaller areas commonly missed during repaints/restorations were likely all painted at the same time (after the body color was done) and in flat black (not satin or semi-gloss most commonly seen in repaints/restorations).

    I’m not very familiar with the use of undercoating on “early” examples, but all mid-to-late production cars I can recall having had their front and rear inner fender wells sprayed and all U.S. delivery car also had some rudimentary coating on their auxiliary heat shield support panels above the mufflers, I’ve only seen these “panels” and the extra layer of under floor insulation on U.S market examples, presumably due to their exhaust designed and intended to run hotter with emissions control system.
    Euro cars I’ve worked on have had separate heat shields mounted on top of their mufflers.
