Any thoughts on whether or not to add power steering to a Daytona would be appreciated

I've always wondered how 'heavy' the steering is on these cars-On the old v8's it seems natural to not have power steering but these are much more car (obviously ha ha!)

I have a set up from a 365GTC/4 on my Daytona. It makes the car very pleasurable. I think that a c/4 set up or the EZ power steering is a nice way to go.

I put an EZ Power Steering unit on my Daytona about 18 months ago and it made all the difference in the world. My son and I put about 2000 miles on it last November driving to, from and during the Texas 1000 rally and we couldn't believe the change in the personality of the car. Parking lots and tight spaces are no longer an effort. The purists generally don't like the concept, but the EZ unit is completely reversible and makes the car a lot more user friendly.

I had a street car, and driven at normal speed, even on mountain road , does not need PS. Just for parking moves.
I have a comp one, with very wide tires. This need PS for driving on road, for comfort. For driving on track, PS makes it unstable at 150mph, you don't want that. So we have a switchable electric system that can be put on and off.

That is the concept of the EZ Power Steering system. There is no input from the unit above 10 or 15 mph.

My Berlinetta has the power steering unit from a 400, while my Dad has an EZ unit on his Spyder conv.

Personally I prefer the unit in mine. The steering is lighter overall, and I suspect way too light if you were to go far beyond speeds that can legally be driven on public roads, but it feels consistent and there is still plenty of feel (and kickback if you hit a pothole) through the wheel.

The EZ system feels a little artificial as it reduces the level of assistance and sometimes the weighting doesn't feel right.

Having said that the EZ system is much easier to install, although it took a bit of setting up afterwards to get it feel right and not have a huge dead spot with the steering straight ahead. I believe EZ themselves suggest adjusting the camber for this.

I'll try to find the link to an article from last year where a guy in the UK fitted this system to his car.

Stick to the original......steering is very heavy at parking speed but once you get moving at all it is perfectly manageable. Don't sacrifice one of the Daytona's quirkier characteristics for a few moments parking convenience.
