For those of us who keep an eye on Daytona's for sale you know that the market has been pretty slim with very few offerings. So it was with surprise this morning when I received my online edition of the Ferrari Market Letter to see six new listings. Of those six, 3 were offered from the same party, Peter Fino from IL which I thought was unusual. I'd be curious to hear comments on this. Here are the serial #'s:14439 / 15569 / 15729. Thank you.

What are the asking prices of the 6 cars in FML currently? Any other details?

Who knows what a Daytona is worth these days. I remember in a post on that subject not that long ago Tom S. said he knew of 2 that had sold for north of $200K. Then again, he also said he knew of 2 nice cars bought for $125K.

I have absolutely no idea what my car is worth. I figure somewhere between $100K and $250K. Doesnt really matter though as I have no interest in selling.

I think daytonas are worth quite a bit more than 125 K. A well sorted one was someone's big expense. I drove my red beauty to work this morning, windows down, all the beautiful noise from the engine in my ears...no I would not sell mine, like Terry said, for any price between 200 and 125. I didnt sell when the prices were 450,000 so why sell now? They are a great pleasure to drive, the last front engined 12 that Enzo supervised the construction of, and a classic.

In todays market , A Daytona should be worth a good 200k$ .At least .
The only pb with Daytonas , is that they arent elligible for great events such as the TDF or the mille Miglia whereas a Lusso or a 275 are.

true they arent eligible, but then I doubt I would take mine there if they were eligible. I understand what you meant though.

    For Daytonas???

As to events, the Mille Miglia would not accept a Daytona, their cutoff time I thought is 1958 so the Lusso and 275 are SOL as well. But many events can and do accept Daytonas. Tour Auto has had Daytonas as have lots of other events.

    Terry here are the asking prices;

    '71 ~ 14439 ~ $245K
    '73 ~ 15293 ~ $185K
    '71(?) ~ 15569 ~ $220K
    '72 ~ 15729 ~ $285K
    '73 ~ 16919 ~ $199K
    '73 ~ 17005 ~ $300K!!!!!

I took a look at the FML archives from Jan. '05. At that time there were 5 Dayton's for sale between $130K to $150K representing a pretty hefty increase in the asking prices.

There's obviously a trend of some sorts upward. Of course asking prices will trend upward at a higher rate to try to pull the selling price as high as possible. As momentum builds, often times selling prices will accelerate as people who have been on the sidelines realize they better jump before it's too late. Luckily I saw the trend and jumped last Oct! Who knows, maybe the money I lost on depreciation for the 360 Modena I had will be recovered in a few years... :)

Still - those are some surprising asking prices! I wonder what condition these cars are in.

Seems like one guy is working pretty hard to manipulate the market upward!

    $300K ?????? I hope its gold plated!

Then again, I look at Lusso's at $300K+ and I just dont get it. The Lusso is a gorgeous car and all, but I would take a Daytona over it every day.

17005 (the $300k car) is not being sold by the guy with 3 Daytonas in FML. It is advertised as having taken second place at FCA nationals, and having "multiple platinum awards."

FML has three cars from Peter Fino, one from the Netherlands, one from Black on Black, and 17005 from some guy who only lists an email address.

How much would the Daytona on wreckedexotics.com be worth today? I would love to do a comp conversion on a wrecked car. Anyone got any projects? Tom S., whats a car like that worth now. I assume is is worth restoring at todays prices.

I've been waiting for this. At http://daytonaregistry.com/ there has been a lot of talk about the buzz with Daytonas. It has been predicted to be the next Ferrari to get recognition. We are still a long way off from being just south of $500,000.00. There is still room for more movement....and it's about time. Most of what I see here are end users. Wait until the investors get in and they will. Then watch out.

RM Cars has 16997 listed for auction at Monterey. Their high estimate is $200,000. I have no idea of the condition of the car beyond the description on RM's website. Perhaps the action on this car will set the tone for Daytona pricing in the near future?

Neither the 250 GT Lusso nor the 275 GTB or 275 GTB/4 will ever be eligible for the Mille Miglia. Only cars built up to 1957 are accepted.

Well, if prices are really increasing this much it leaves me perplexed.

Of course I like that my car is going up in value. Everyone would. But, it does not really matter because I have no intentions to sell it. If I sold it, then I wouldnt have it and I would really miss it. Remember Rick....

Also, I would love to be able to buy a trashed basket case Daytona for $75K or less and build it into a comp coupe replica for vintage racing. But, with prices doing what they are doing such a project car might bring $125K or more. Nuts to me and beyond what I could pay. It sounds like project cars, if they even exist any more, will soon be worth even more. Stinks for me.

Yes Terry, they used to sell for upwards of 500,000 ( i know someone who bought one for 575,000 at the height of the market) so the 300 K car does not have to be gold plated...I turned down 450,000 for one of mine...can you believe that?

I didnt mean they were but they certainly are eligible for the TDF . The Daytona in street form, however, isnt for any.

in motor trend classic, a new magazine that just came out they rank the 10 best street ferraris ever made and have the daytona second to the gto...maybe the world is catching on...my car purportedly was sold for 650k in the heyday to a japanese investor who probably lost 50% before the sake wore off!

Just picked up Classic and Sports cars here in the UK and a plexi that fits your description sold at auction for the equiv of about 90kUSD. Mad.

Hard to tell if said car was complete - in the picture it had no front lights at all, the paint was stripped on most of it, driver's door skin was missing, the sill was off, only the quarter light glass was in the side...take a lot of putting straight. Even if someone's going to Comp or Spider it.
