Earlier this afternoon someone in Tiger Moth (G-AOEI) flying near Cambridge did this! It is a shame the transponder dropped out when they flew the nose:

Some friends of mine are over there in a DC-3 right now. They are planning to do the Normandy fly-over, along with a bunch of other DC-3s/C-47s.

They have just dropped their parachutists near Caen, if they are part of that group.

I did the markings drawings for several of the C-47's that are participating in this, N105D "9X" P and S6,( i.d. number not known).Perhaps no more than two or three camouflaged aircraft are correctly painted and marked.

Yes, there is a real assortment of colour schemes. N150D popped up on this evening near Caen during the parachute drop.

I'm good friends with those guys, a family, and they have done a great job with their airplanes. I knew an ex-C-47 pilot that flew X9-k on several sorties on June 5th & 6th 1944 and he had some ripping accounts of what he and his crew went through. His airplane had to be grounded from flak and gunfire damage. He then duplicated everything again when he flew on the Market garden campaign. My drawing of his escape from Arnhem. Great drawing, Bob. My first flight was in a C-47 in 1959.
