David Coulthard believes that Renault's Fernando Alonso was the best driver in 2008.

Alonso finished fifth in the final drivers standings, 37 points behind winner Lewis Hamilton, but Coulthard is of the opinion that Alonso was the most impressive driver on show.

"As I said in other interviews, for me, Fernando was the best driver in 2008 even though the car was not up to the task," the Scot - who retired at the end of last season - told AS.

"He continued working and eventually achieved two wins at the end of the season."

Speaking at the Zaragoza Motor Show Festival, Coulthard also took a moment to reflect on his own career.

Asked about the highlight of his time in F1, the 37-year-old responded, "For me the most important thing was to win twice in Monaco, a circuit that does not allow mistakes."
