Left town, put battery on trickle charger. Did not charge.

Connected 110V to battery charger. Did not work. So apparently a dead battery that has lived mostly on a trickle charger since we travel a lot and as a result car doesn't get driven much. Battery was replaced in Dec '06.

Could call AAA to jump but no sure what to tell the tech if he hasn't jumped a Ferrari.
Could get AAA to tow car but it is sitting in 1st gear on a Pedal Shift. So unable put the car in neutral and fear any towing activity might damage the F1 gear box.

Thanks for your advice and counsel.

    Jumping is not recommended

You could try charging from the terminals in the engine bay

At the end of the day it may be best to just get a new battery and a new trickle charger - many many similar threads in the 355 section

Don't mind getting it towed to replace battery and trickle charger but am concerned about potential damage to gear box since car is sitting in 1st gear. Anyway to put in Neutral? Is it even an issue I should be worried about. Thanks for your post, very helpful.

Most tow companies (esp flatbed ones) will be able to lift your wheels onto wheelies (4 tiny wheels and tires per your one wheel) which should then enable them to roll the car up onto the bed. I had an audi stuck in gear once and this was the resolution. It was lowered so ground clearance was similar to my 355.

    Good luck!

As I understand from the other posts you need power to get to neutral to safely tow (altho there may be a procedure in either the owners or workshop manual that gets around this)

So from now its charge existing battery using non-trickle charger

After 24 hours try again and if it fires decide thereafter whether to chance your old battery with a new trickle charger

Ferrari makes a tool for that. Your repair shop should have one to loan the tow truck driver.

Obviously, we are talking about F1 transmissions. Is the car in "brick" mode like a Tesla if it loses battery power? Why would it not be easier to bring a new battery to the car?

Just get a low profile jack, lift the right side of the car at the front jacking point. Remove the front right tire. Remove a few screws and remove the cover. Turn off the battery Switch off. Remove the battery terminals. Replace with new battery, they only last 3 years on average. Turn battery switch back on. Then you have peace of mind and won't get stranded. I use an Optima Red Top Battery in my 355, cost is about $200. Good luck!

Thank you one and all. I think I have a much better sense of what to do next.
