My only explanation is that we don't have the full picture on how the Hungary test went down. We have the laptimes yes, but do we know what condition he was in afterwards etc?

With practice and test runs anything (do some degree) is possible.

 

I hope RB kicks McLaren's butt all season long so I can laugh my azz off like I do every time Massa goes faster than Stroll.

 

Alonso would be pulling his hair out if Honda cures their engine woes.

 

I was about to say that I had enough laughing at Alonso's...but no...that would really be the cherry on top of the cake!

 

This is true. But it's a bit like wishing that the earth turns out to be flat. It isn't going to happen.

Seriously, can't you see the blinding logic. Honda are 2seconds off renaults current pace. They need to catch up plus make up whatever additional time Renault extract next year. It isn't going to happen.

Which, incidentally, was the year of Fernado Alonso's second WDC...and looking at that picture, that was a looooooooooooooooong time ago!

Because Dieter is fed up with spendid so much money...this will become a lot cheaper with Honda engines for free and possibly some sponsorship...

McLaren is willing to spend big bucks to keep Alonso. At the end of the day I think Alonso will be the only one making out in this fiasco.

 

Surely he will have to take a big pay cut ? Now no Honda $$$ for 2018.

Toro Rosso a better fit for Honda says Yamamoto


Honda thinks Toro Rosso could be a better fit for the Japanese marque than McLaren.

After the split was announced in Singapore, Honda's senior F1 chief Masashi Yamamoto said he would have preferred to keep racing with McLaren next year.

He said a lack of performance and reliability "created tension between us" and led to the split.

However, Honda will race on next year with Toro Rosso, Red Bull's junior team.

"The regulations go on until 2020 so we still have three years and we want to show our improvements in the technology," said Yamamoto.

So rather than see it as a step down in the paddock, Yamamoto thinks Toro Rosso could even be better for Honda than McLaren was.

"First Mr (Franz) Tost knows a lot about Japan. He understands the culture and it's a good communication that we have," said the Japanese.

"Working with McLaren, I've realised that they are a very big company which is very systematic," Yamamoto explained. "It's obviously very strong because of that but at the same time they can find it hard to adapt to change.

"Compare that to Toro Rosso, it is a company that is growing.

"Take this for an example: if we compare both teams with different cuisines, let's say McLaren is a very sophisticated French cuisine -- that's the way it is.

"Toro Rosso is more like a countryside, homemade delicious stew where you can add new ingredients. We're excited to do that," he added.
