Hello all. I was recently offered a 1978 308 gtb that the owner said had a dealer installed LeMans package installed in Toronto soon after purchase. Can anyone elaborate on what this package may have included and what if any change in value it could have on the car. Thanks. Jim

There was a kit the ferrari allegedly sold as a back door product for European market cars only, and it featured P6 cams, forged Borgo pistons which were about 10:1 compression, and slightly different jetting. Ferrari called it the 'sprint kit' or something to that effect. I have personal experience with this exact kit as I have built an engine using these components. Be warned, P6 camshafts are far too big a camshaft for street use. I spent s great deal of time trying to make this engine more streetable, but it was just not possible simply due to the duration of the camshafts being so extreme. Above about 4000rpm the engine was glorious and had very good power, but it is very difficult maintaining that rpm on the street. That all said, I do not believe this kit adds value to the car and if anything it might detract from it as in that tune the car is very difficult to street.

I have a 308 sales brochure that list this as a "performance package" option that includes upgraded cams and pistons.

Yes, the word "pack" comes to my mind; I seem to recall "sprint pack" also?

Thanks 4right. That's interesting and legitimizes the option. Any chance you could post a photo of the page that references the option? Thanks. Jim

Yes, and just take pictures of the entire brochure if you can.

Check out Office Lens app for a great way to take pictures of documents.

I don't have the brochure in front of me at the moment, however, I did post it here a while back when I purchased it. I will go find it and repost it here.

This is a Ferrari brochure that includes 308, Boxer and 400 series cars. The section of the brochure is labeled High Performance Accesories.

Thanks so much. It looks like those are the wheels on the car the gentleman has on offer. I had never seen them before. Jim

I hope I am not pushing it too far if I ask for the print number of the brochure?
It is usually inside the rear cover. That would be much appreciated.

Thats very cool. I never knew Ferrari offered any packages like this. I would love to learn more about that optional exhaust they show.

I don't believe that this is a factory brochure, rather a brochure supplied through a dealer. I will see if there is a date on the brochure and let everyone know. I believe that this brochure covers the model year 1976.

Its very probably the "standard" four-pipes ANSA exhaust: remember that all Euro carbed 308 were originally fitted with the single-pipe exhaust.
At the time, some owners thought that the four-pipes exhaust, as fitted to US cars, looked "sportier" than the single-pipe, so the factory introduced this four-pipes option (whether it was through the dealers is open to debate...) although today European owners tend to prefer the single-pipe as more "period-looking".

My 75 308 GT4 had a LM like treatment in the mid 80's but not with a factory package though...(although it was installed by a mechanic at one large 4RE Dealer).

    Forged Arias 10.5/1 pistons
stock (retimed?) 75 cams (P5 cams were they then?)
    new Silicon Bronze valve guides
    (other upgraded valve train components?)
    ported(?)/polished/balanced
Electronic Ignition with rev limiter etc.
    rejetted carbs
ANSA exhaust (that looks pretty much like the one shown in the pic)
new wheels (also as shown in the pic)

I did keep all the old parts except the Thermal Reactor exhaust...(the old used pistons, are of course of little use now I expect though)....

I think that was it, I have all the paper work in the garage in a box somewhere, and I'll have to dig it out someday...my car is "running" now after sitting a long (long) time in my garage, but still needs much more work to be streetable etc....

Are the wheels two piece with bolts around the periphery? It is difficult to see from the photo.

Does anyone know if an optional wheel was offered by Ferrari for the 308 in 1979?

Long debated topic as to when 7.5 14 inch or 16 inch wheels were offered either through the factory or dealer. Some would say 77 was the first year according to the repair parts maunual, however, my 76 has 7.5 14 wheels installed stamped 76.
