Just got my Black F430 back from being serviced at the Ferrari dealership. Swirl marks every, like it was wiped down with an old shop rag. I just did a paint correction a few months ago and will need to do it again now.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I didn't bother calling because I don't want the stress of a fight.

If you just did the "paint correction" the clear coat is probably still a little "soft". It usually takes about 120 days for the clear to fully cure and is why waxing prior to curing is not recommended by paint manufactures (I use Dupont, recently bought out, now Axalta). This certainly sucks but don't panic just yet. Unless the swirl marks are actually scratches you can see in the top coat, they will come out. Just wait. Let the paint fully cure and then consult a good Auto Paint Store that has professional products. They can help steer you in the right direction to products that will eliminate the marks. I use Meguires professional products exclusively in my shop. They are the best I have found. You may not need to even use a machine buffer but if you choose to go with a machine use an orbital type. Going it by hand can probably get the finish back to show quality although it may take more time and of course elbow grease. Just be sure these are not scratches and only swirl marks. If they are scratches, I would definitely hold the Dealer's feet to the fire on it.

I would say you could also consult a good "Detailer" but a lot of those guys have a habit of covering up problems for rather than solving them. Make sure he or she is a real pro at using the products they apply.

Paint correction means he previously had the car compounded/polished to remove defects, not that he had it painted and needs the paint to cure. Eric, did you have a ceramic coating applied after the detailing was complete? This is why I tell dealers, regardless if it is my car or trucks, to NOT wash, wipe down, or otherwise touch the paint on my cars. Been there and only way to fix it is to re-detail the car.

No, I didn't have it ceramic coated because "I didn't need it". Ugh.

I hit part of the roof last night with some Menzerna Micro Polish with my dual action random orbital and it removed the swirl marks. It's just going to take time. Still frustrating.

Yes, from now on I'll make sure and tell them to not touch the paint. You'd think of all people, Ferrari would know better than to do this.

That sucks man. Black cars are a pain...they look amazing when they are super clean, buffed and detailed, but will show the imperfections 10x more than any other color. You will probably have to continue using a micro-polisher and just work your way around.

I would still let the dealership know of your frustrations. As a business owner, or manager, you want to hear the complaints, otherwise, you can't correct them.

I don't even let the dealer detail my cars new prior to delivery :), a good paint sealer is fast and easy to apply and can do an excellent job protecting the paint.

I always put a sign on my windshield that says "do not wash car" whenever I leave the car for service.

I have a silver car (it's not just a problem for folks with Nero) and it's been a problem in the past. I now put a big note on the car that reminds them to not touch the paint --no cleaning, no dusting, no spraying. Basically, I had to have it re-detailed when this problem first occurred. Agree that a ceramic coating is a good option but I still wouldn't let the dealer wash my car.

I have to make this sign and remember to display it. I had my 2002 BMW M5 in for warranty work at Orlando Dealer and forgot to say Do Not Wash. The on site car wash dumb azz drove my car into several other cars. He did not know how to drive a powerful car!!!! It was fixed, but not a happy day!!!!

Yeah I had some swirl marks in my paint too, after my last service. It took 3 weeks to get the alternator and cable replaced. It's not too bad but I should have said not to wash it like we agreed on last year. I need to make a sign. It's so frustrating and ridiculous to pay the prices we do, at a professional shop, only to get jerked around and forced to do the work and the oversight to take care of things and do them right yourself. What are we paying for? And they broke my oil pressure sender in the process, adding more time. At least I didn't have to pay for that. I also notice some rattles now in front of the drivers lower engine scoop, maybe the drain tube or more likely the underpanel that cracked at the jack circle. Also some tick when hot at idle. Probably the new alternator and belt. Runs fine but you'd hope it would be tight and quiet. Seats and carpet were filthy with dirty hand prints too. Augh.

I'm with everyone else - the dealer knows not to wash my car. I have a good relationship with all of the people there and they know how anal I am about my vehicles so they know not to touch it. I even go so far as to cover my seats in very large micro fiber towels and then I put a plastic seat cover over that.

Then it should have been stated the car was "compounded/polished". As a shop owner for 26 years I've not ever heard of "paint correction". Sorry for my reply.

how does "paint correction" (thorough polishing followed by waxing), soften the clear coat that has probably been on the car for > 7 years
    ???

Never mind, just saw your reply above.

    Cheers
