Besides the often-discussed radio head units, were there any other common dealer options for the 348? Alarms, wheels, spoilers, etc? Just curious. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The era of dealer or factory options as long as your leg is from a time after the 348. Very little aside from color. Now that said some dealers "may" have offered specific thing's like stereo or wheels or window tint or paint protection etc or fulfilled owner requests like one of those "please stand back from the car" alarms but that would have been dealer specific and not standard across dealers and probably very few did at risk of angering Ferrari. . As far as factory few few things aside from colors and additional items like tool case or glove box flash light or foldable Targa top. ON the car... very little options generally speaking ESPECIALLY relative to today. whole different era. "here is the car take it or leave it" pretty much what it was from what I understand of the time.
No, I get it. Ferrari hadn’t learned how to extract every possible nickel from its customers yet. I was just wondering if things like Tubis and wheels and alarms were commonly done by dealers or if that was strictly aftermarket.
Very common. Dealers were anxious to put on anything the client was willing to pay for. In those days dealers for the most part ignored what Ferrari wanted. We received multiple letters warning us to quit installing GTO wheels on TRs. Ferrari did nothing so the letters went in the trash. Stereos, alarms, radar detectors, wheels, tires, exhausts, lowering, you name it. Later we were installing fender badges like crazy. Installing Challenge parts on 355s and big brake kits. I put a lot of Challenge steering racks, PS pumps, sway bars, shock kits, lowering and special alignments. Ferrari hated it and we did it anyway. Lots of dealers did including the factory owned dealer.
My understanding, with respect to fearing the factory, is that changed in the middle of the 348’s run when Luca took over the company and corporatized the dealer network. So it’s certainly possible you are both right Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Did you read The Dealer*? It goes into great detail about the changes in the dealer network in the early 90s. In the 70s they were repairing cars no problem. Enzo didn’t care what they did if they sold. Once Enzo died the relationship changed dramatically. Point being: during the 348’s run things changed at lot. * https://a.co/d/3zDoN7i Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I’ve seen a few cars with painted windows like this and it seems unlikely to me that owners would go and do this in the aftermarket. This is the kind of thing I wonder if some dealers were doing back in the day to spice up the 348. Image Unavailable, Please Login
