My 360 is in the dealer for 15K service. I was adviced that 4 of my brake rotors & pads are almost gone. I was quoted $5300.00 for changing all 4 brake & rotors for approx. $5300.00. Is this about right? Thanks. Just doing some research here and need your wisdom. TIA, Jimmy
yup thats in the ballpark..you could maybe get them to do a little better..like cut the labor down..it's not hard to change brakes.
My Dodge Pickup ran almost $2k to replace all four corners, so on its face, sounds about right. $5k is real money non the less. Maybe downshift more or consider never lifting!
I think it is a little high. One thing you have to remember is that the dealers are supposed to, as a condition of their contract use only ricambi originali parts. Ferrari gets stupid money for those (especially brake parts) and there are as good and better parts available through the aftermarket (even same brand).
I can see the point of replacing the pads, but the rotors as well? How can they be worn to the point of needing replacement with only 15,000 miles on the dial? If the rotors are truely gone, I would look into aftermarkets and independents to do this.
I had the pads changed @ about 6000~9000 miles (can't remember exact), and so surprised that I have to change them again @ 15K, and this time i need Rotors.... Dealer told me that Brembo specially made these brake for Ferrari, they tends to wear very fast... thoughts?
I think that's absurd... There is no way 4 pieces of round metal with holes drilled in them and some pads should cost that much.
I find it hard to believe that the rotors are cooked with 15K miles. Seems like that would happen if they were metal on metal. I'd get another professional opinion on that, it may only in fact need pads. Maybe it doesn't even really need pads either. Trust but verify
Well, I have no experience with the newer models, but for some reason this just doesn't sound right. I guess if you track the car a lot the pads can wear faster than normal, but for 6,000+ miles? and needing new rotors at 15,000 is just plain insane. I think Brembo also makes upgrade systems for Ferraris too, I would probably get those instead of using the stock ones. But I think I would take a good look into Giro as well @ www.************
Thank you, I just send you an e-mail. Also may I ask where is FAI? Please write me to: [email protected] if you like. Thanks a mil
you guys are forgetting one thing. He went to the dealer to get a quote. With this in mind the price is in the ballpark. Yes there are aftermarket alternitives but he never asked.
Well, A full set of Ferodo pads are most likely around $260.00, if similar to a 550. Rotors would be stock Bremos which you could buy at Girodisc or many other dealers, which I would estimate a set at 2K, maybe 500 each. I am guessing on the rotors as I have not priced them out, the pads I just did recently. What is it worth for someone to do it for you?
Definately look into some aftermarket pieces from Brembo and different pad types. You could get everythign down and cryo the rotors for less then that.
Jimmy, you're getting taken. Only way to tell whether rotors are done is with a thickness gague/micrometer. As a reference point: I still have the original rotors on my 2000 Maranello (much heavier than your 360), with 22,xxx miles, many of which were EXTREMELY hard ones on track. Now...my rotors are almost finished, but not quite. And, I have already purchased replacement OEM Brembo rotors for a total of $800 for all 4. Pads are marked up approx. 800% (as told to me by a dealer service manager) so I buy from Cobalt Friction. All 4 corners of Ferodo DS2500 (probably the best hybrid street/track pad out there) cost approx. $700. So...my full rotor/pad job is gonna cost me $1,500 plus labor, which won't be much (especially since I do the pads myself), and that is after 22,xxx miles of aggressive use.
Jimmy, Are they scored, or are they thinner than the factory spec? You can measure the thickness yourself with a micrometer, available at places like www.mcmaster.com. If you need rotors, then you need rotors, independent of the mileage. --Matt
For all OEM at a dealer that is pretty close. As for rotor wear I have clients that have WORN OUT 2 sets of rotors in that time. Just like clutches everybody is different on brakes.
