What does the forum think about a Ferrari dealer refusing to provide service history on a car which they are selling, sold new, and likely did all the servicing?
They are citing "privacy concerns" as the reason to withhold this information.
This sounds like BS to me. This is Ferrari world!!

I didn't buy a 430, but when I ask about getting info on my 355 I was told they couldn't give me any...:( Reason: Protect the previous owner???

when i requested the service records from the dealer they gave me all that was done from day 1 to present and all that was done to protect privacy was a black sharpie striking out all previous owner info. if they want to give it to you they can find a way

I would think they could give the dates of annual services and certainly confirm all the TSBs have been done. I don't see the point. I don't know about NC but in CO if I bought a used car and did not finance through the dealer, I would get the title which would have the name of the most recent owner anyway.

When I bought my first Ferrari, a used 360, from the selling dealer... they were kind enough to make a copy of the entire service history, but only after they blocked the previous owner's name and contact information from the service records.

I was fine with that b/c now I was able to read, chronologically, everything that was done to the car, I came away with a great feeling and bought the car.

Ask them to block out the owner information and see what they say.

If they say no, then look somewhere else... no good reason for this behavior.

If they refuse to provide the service history ... that really means that there is none. I would be very careful unless your PPI comes out clean.

It's a common policy, not a unique problem.

I disagree- I received infomration on the car I bought and other cars I was looking at from other dealers- they printed the whole thing up that didn't show prior owner info, and when I actually bought a car I was able to get the invoices themselves.

Forgeahead, I'd make it very clear that this is important to you and a deal kill issue. If they still refuse, I'd walk away and let the manager of the dealer know why you are walking away. If the answer is the car was never serviced at a ferrari dealer than fine- the price should reflect lack of evidence of anything being done- you have no proof of recalls, campaigns or even oil changes being done.

Just for the record, the dealer in question is in northern California.
I have had excellent experience with the dealer in NC. I bought a 360 from them and they got me service records from Quebec. Quebec!!!

Not necessarily. By omitting the prior owner(s) personal information the dealer can still provide copies of the service history.

I've had dealers contact me and ask my permission to release the service history to a potential customer that was interested in my car. Provided they blocked out the personal information, it was fine.

There should be no reason for them not to give you the service history sans original owner contact information. Ask for them to block it out.

Yes, our highly litigous (sp?) society.

Yes, they *can* do that but that doesn't mean he's wrong. It is a common policy.

I got all the service records on my CS from the dealer. As other said, prior owner info was blacked out, but everything from day 1 was sent to me.

Tell them to compile a service history. Write it all up, with dates etc. Put it on their company letterhead and have two managers sign and date it.

    Otherwise, I say... WALK.

    Wrong!

RUN RUN away if they refuse to provide service history.

I bought a used fcar (wholesale) from an authorized Fcar dealer, and they claimed NO service records. Turns out there was 15 pages, including a $45k damage repair.

    Guess what? Car passed PPI.

There is nothing wrong with buying a car that doesn't have service history....it can get misplaced, lost, previous owner kept it, etc. Caveat emptor, and make sure the price reflects it.
But there IS something wrong with buying a car where there IS service history that cannot be disclosed.

My selling dealer just took a sharpie and blacked out the name...

The prior dealer, who had serviced the car more than 5 years prior to my purchase, said they purged all their records, and wouldn't give me any info...

That's never been my experience after purchasing nine preowned Ferraris. The only 'common' thread here is the fact that they, the dealers, are legally prohibited from disclosing personal information such as owner(s) names and contact information. However, this has no bearing regarding the actual services provided.
