Not always true. Some people will buy a car for pure image reasons and not care to ask the "right" questions. Others.. will take months to find a car :)

Unrelated to what you said, but also keep in mind the internet age has vastly changed the way people have bought cars. Having a good relationship to a local isn't as important as it once was. Hell, I've worked on car deals in my boxers even

It just a a trained method they have of qualifying people who may be able to buy, not 100% certain, but its a visual tool of profiling.
Works a charm for me, whenver I want to try out an exotic just wear a nice watch, no need even for chit chat.

Funny because these days I dont otherwise wear a watch, or a suit or tie ever.

Thanks Sherpa, what a gratifying feeling to know you were above that pettiness, and now years later for you to have the last laugh...

Well, yeah. 308s are great cars!! Everyone knows that.

Seriously, I didn't even give it a second thought. If someone doesn't know me and they make a disparaging remark, all it does is paint them in a poor light. It's not worth giving any thought to. He obviously wasn't going to be someone I was going to deal with.

I have a list of great Ferrari sales people from around the country that I hold in high regard that I can always call if needed. But you know who I hold in higher regard when it comes to buying a car? The top Ferrari mechanics from around the country.

Yup. That's why you just shake your head when dealers like FoW or Algar let their best techs take a walk and open competing shops. I realize they're not losing much, plenty of owners under warranty or just don't give it a second thought, wouldn't even be aware of the brain drain. But it's the principle, the best Ferrari shops being indy's. As a small biz man, I love it, but you would think it should make Ferrari nauseous.

There's no "let" in why they leave. Good techs get tired of being screwed by flat-rate, warranty pay, and ishty management. It's a master course in what NOT to do to be successful in this arena.

It was time for the Algar guys who left. They earned their twilight and I am quite sure the relationship will be nicely symbiotic.

FoW just wants cheap starry-eyed kids who can hook up a computer. Total West Coast style and I was not surprised to see this start with something about FoNB. Same mgmt group.

FoD's two best techs left as well and started their own shop: Maranello Motorworks. One has been at the dealership since 1986 and was one of the first Ferrari Master Tech's in the US, as well as the one consistently graded highest by FNA.

A certain type of buyer buys old cars, and a different type buys new cars.
They rarely intersect, and dealers are interested in only one.
Not the guy buying a screw from the parts department.

It's interesting how people who have had bad Ferrari experiences seem to have them in multiple venues, and people who have good experiences seem to have them wherever they go

Many years ago, I worked as PT lot boy at The Chequered Flag in London. One day, a scruffy individual came in and wandered around the showroom, stopping at a DB4GT among other cars. The head salesman came out and told me to engage with the guy and get rid of him.
Wasn't the last time I spoke with Roger Daltry of the Who, we met several times after that at races and car events....

Salespeople make a huge mistake going on clothes/appearance, in general. I am an author. My usual outfit is yoga pants, t-shirt, flip flops, hair in a ponytail and no makeup. I'm not a jewelry wearer, so no jewelry. I have had salepeople hesitate at shoe stores, purse stores and on car lots, much to their ultimate dismay when the younger person was sent over to take care of the assumed "tire kicker" and I walk out with product. I also don't spend time looking. I usually go in knowing what I want, buy it, and leave.

These guys endure more jacksssery than you will EVER know.
    Observe here: http://youtu.be/E1Y335pR9tk

If you check the chip on your shoulder at the door at the Ferrari store (or anywhere else) and treat whomever you encounter with the same respect that you expect, you will have a good experience and more time to have an actual life, now that you don't have to spend all of your free time writing scathing Yelp reviews :)

That sounds a little hard to believe. All of the Fcar Sales guys I know would not be able to tell if her dress came from Wal Mart or some shop in Beverly Hills?????

I would never do that in a shop, wherein I feel not well treated. Give them profite in response to bad behaviour? Definitely no!

In fact, I never even return to such shop. Rarely products are so unique that they can be bought at one place only. And even if so, life is possible without such product. ;)

    Cheers, Bernhard

I recently ordered an F 12 from a place that I had purchased my last two Ferraris and actually consigned one that sold, at a loss to me, but a tidy sum to them. I've had the same salesman who I've actually had dinner with, taken to sporting events.

When I asked what to do with my current Ferrari, I was told that we'd have to see what it was worth when the F12 got there, and that I should try to sell it on my own. When I suggested that maybe after car number three I had earned some sort of break, maybe take mine into inventory for something close to what I owed on it. (which, by the way, was pretty close to wholesale) Just give me something, anything -- I got nothing. Needless to say, I cancelled my F12 order and am moving on. This was two weeks ago and I never heard from the guy again. No attempt to work out a solution to keep my business. The fact is, they don't really care. They sell every car they get and really don't seem to need us small time customers. Final note, I was actually told by my buddy that I wouldn't even be on the radar at their dealership until I had 4 F cars in my garage. Guess I'm going Stealth.

Quite true. But not many seem to have negative things to say about their customer service.
