What a small world, I also live in Waldorf! This coating applied from many OEM suppliers seems to all wear very poorly over time. My volume knob on my factory radio has this coating and its pretty sticky. I can't find it anywhere else on the car though. It is very similar to my old laptop texture (IBM T43).
Console back in! Love the de-stickied surfaces. Love the smooth switches. Thank you Robbie. Robb Image Unavailable, Please Login
Robb, did you happen to look at the thick gasket between the shift housing and gate? It's only a $16 part and my 95 was crumbled. I suspect that leads to the cracked plastic switch plate too...
Yes. Tried to melt it back together but the outer ashtray will need to be replaced someday. I'm happy though. Robb
Dave , you need to forget fchat right now and get out to the garage to build an ark to load youre cars into for the big melt . Jokes aside , youre in for a serious situation in the next day or so , hope your house is on high ground . Good luck ! " serenity now "
Dave, My "spacer" there was good to go. Wouldn't hurt to have s spare at that price. Makes sense. Robb
I am sure the ashtray has been replaced ....its not sticky yet. Almost wish it was so I could finally know what a sticky part feels like lol
I will keep the top metal flip door and new flags. I'll just look for a new thin surround connected to the lower body. Robb
Randy, You are lucky. Sticky parts suck. The only thing worse was my dad's gran Torino station wagon from the 70's... The window trim would turn into black sludge... Robb
Yes. Only two plastic / Metal parts to the ashtray. Lower housing and the movable metal door. I have now added "housing" to my spellcheck! Rest is bolt on flags, interior tray, electrical plug, spring, and metal lightbulb holder. Robb
I just had mine apart to desticky it a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately it's just the door and the rest of the assembly. I glued, epoxied, sanded painted mine and it didn't hold up. Unless someone sells just the plastic part of it without the door I think were stuck getting a whole new ashtray.
Iirc the original finish is a silicone based product , and since most detailing products contain silicone , that could be the reason the finish goes bad , the silicone in the products , over time breaks down the original finish , almost thins it out . Just like lacquer thinner breaks down lacquer paint. The products designed to preserve actually destroy the surface . My center console and steering column have been refinished , but my dash vents have not been redone and are perfect and not sticky . How is that? I figure the po possibly used a silicone free procuct , and maybe did the console not because it was sticky but was possibly just scratched . Does anyone else have original parts that are NOT sticky ? Im curious " serenity now "
My 98 had a bunch of non sticky parts. I decided to be proactive and fix them before they were broke.
Can anyone advise how i remove black metal triangle pieces that go on the inside of the forward part of the doors on a F355? These are the pieces that sit inside where the mirrors mount onto the car. They are sticky and need refinishing. There are two Philips head screws on the top/front of the triangles. But once the screws are out, how do I get the triangles out? Any advice would be much appreciated. Just don't want to ruin anything by ripping it out like a gorilla.
