If you have ever watched Harry’s Garage, you would have noticed that he measures the decibel level inside the car while taking the various cars out for a test drive. He uses an app called db Meter Pro. For kicks, I downloaded the app and measured mine. 76 308 GTB, Euro, no sound deadening in the air box. High reading was 116, wind noise? The highest that I noticed while accelerating through the gears was 92. I would imagine that the carb 308’s without air box insulation would be the loudest with stock exhaust. I will try with the windows closed next time. I typically run the rpms between 4K and 5K when accelerating through the gears.

I tell people it's a love hate relationship. Who wouldn't love to have a Italian supermodel girl friend, who is high maintenance and only volume settings are loud or screaming.

I've been working on recording an "accurate" soundtrack of the carbs at full bore (engine properly warmed up, of course). I tried mounting a windscreened (both foam and dead cat) mic in the air intake, with airbox sound baffling removed, and - at redline - it blows out a mic with 140dB SPL. Cockpit would obviously be much quieter, but then, also less exciting. FWIW
