I have on my list 3 cars.

    1999-2001 996 NA
    2001 996TT
    1995-1999 F355

What I am looking for is a car that gets some attention sounds good and is a ball to drive. I am not worried as much about having a super fast car. I am concerned about handling though. I once thought having the fastest car I could afford was what I wanted. I know longer believe that. I have not owned many sports cars. My current toy was purschased because of it's mod potential. I purchased a 2003 SVT Cobra. Very fun car in a straight line when you can get traction. I only bought one after getting a ride while away on business with a VP. Needless to say it really impressed me. The cobra has 530WHp can easily make over 600whp with the new twin screw I have sitting on the shelf.(I may sell the car) I hate the build quality of the car. I hate it's handling. It is a real chore to drive(It only has 3900 miles). It has a notchy 6spd gear box. A very heavy clutch. It weighs in at 3700lbs and it feels like it! However the car is a total monster. I have to run BFG drag radials 315/35/18 on the back just to keep it on the road. The car is a easy low 11sec with the ac on! I hate the fact it is a mustang. So I am trying to pick a new. I have not decided if I will keep the cobra or not. If I sell it the replacement will need to be peppy. I want car that handles well and gets some looks. As shallow as that sounds. I may wish to take it to the local mid ohio track for some laps but I doubt it. I really need some help. I will be buying in july. Keep in mind I have not driven any of the cars on my list. One thing to add I own 2 Audis a 04 A4 1.8T and a 01 A6 4.2. I love the build of quality of both these cars. The A4 is a blast to drive just kinda weak on power even after a chip and injectors. I have no interest in a S4 or RS6. I want a sports car. So advice please?

Hopefully I don't sound too much like a dribbling turd!

People like pics. If you have never seen one.

Dont doubt the s4, maybe try the new rs4. I am thinking you should really look into these cars. Handling is great (awd) and you can def get the performance you need. Top gear had the s4 (stock) almost keeping up with a murcie around a track.

I would def get the 355 though, if you are set on one of those 3 cars. Its just soooo much fun to drive. Plus, nothing turns heads like a ferrari, pcars are so common.

I have had porsches (911's, 930 and my crown jewel 993 twin turbo) continuously for over 18 years. I love them my heart is with them BUT I always wanted a Ferrari!!! Horsepower, 0-60, 1/4 mile or top speed alone has never been enough. I just bought a nice 1997 F355 spider and can honestly say it stirs the spirit more than all my pcars, even though it is not as fast. I love it! I even chose it over a Porsche 996TT X50!

Now how much do like the F355?? I chose it over a 1993 512 TR that had more power! I like the drivetrain of the 512 but the look is very dated and not a spider.

My opinion is make a decision based on the whole package not just horsepower.

If you can swing the maintenance costs, the F355 is the winner, IMO. (Post this on rennlist for the opposite view...) This is a big "if".

To make it easier, the 996 is probably the bottom of the barrel when it comes to recent 911s, with an interior that screams Toyota, poor resale and styling that resembles the entry-level Boxster. A 993TT is probably about as close to a head-turner as Porsche has made short of the CGT, but they can cost more than the 996TT.

A 355 will stop people dead in their tracks, and is generally considered the best sounding of the recent V8 Ferraris. (My tubi'ed 328 sounds great, but a 355 is a true beast!)

Look for a 355. I wish that I had started looking years ago when I had my 328. The sound and body are unbelievable.

I have had four 911 post 1999 and recently just traded my 02 c4 cab for a 1995 F355B and have not looked back.

There is no comparison in fun factor, sound factor and look factor.

    F355 all the way.

    I totally agree!!!

In my view Porsches are great cars for the money and very reliable. Though they have become a bit too "civilized" for me, almost too easy to drive.

A Ferrari just takes the experience to a higher level. My F355 has an "uncertainty" factor when I push it which really gets my adrenaline going...I can't really explain it, maybe it like a new girlfriend...only better.

You have to experience it first hand.

If insanely fast with gut-wrenching torque isn't important, strike the TT.....I wouldn't want to see one wasted that way :)

The other two cars are priced vastly different so I don't see the comparison. If its a weekend fun car, 355 is the ticket for you.

I have a 95 355B cams set to challenge spec. 295 35s on the rear and test pipes with a tubi. What an awsome machine. There is almost no end to the power on city streets. I just bought a 355 challenge car so I can have even more fun on the track. Cant wait for it to get here. In the end the F355 may very well be the best car Ferrari ever put on the streets.
