well its decision time, JM got into me re the DB9 during the last SFR on the old coast, so now the list has been diminished to the 575M or 599, there is a price difference of about 200k.

    give me your thoughts

If you care about the tear up factor, wait untill customer 599's starting getting delivered and 575's are being traded. You should be able to pick one up at 300K or less. Otherwise, 599 all the way, what a beast, I look forward to bastardising one in 4 or 5 years time.

    stephen,
one thing i dont do is sell them, (cant record a loss then) but say in 20 years whats a 575M or 599 one owner with say 20,000km gonna be worth.
its hard to justify the money on the 599, the 575M is better value for money and with the change i can buy another toy, like a 360. and i'm talking June 07, cos thats when the M3 is finished in its lease. but they want me order now a 599 for delivery next Aug 07

One is going to be around $3500 a month the other, even ex GST and LCT $5500. Is $2K a month meaningful to you financially? If not 599. In 20 years time they'll both be worth nothing anyway. Too many electronics mean that service costs on older cars are going to make non warranty maintenance very expensive. Think about gearbox actuators, pumps and control units, even the shocks are electromagnetic etc etc!! Churn and burn baby, forget about long term resale unless you are talking collectibles.
Just spend what you can afford to blow IMO.

Do you want them from the heart or the head?
The heart says 599 or was that 69?
    The head says 575M

I'll need a new project by then, unless I've accumlated enough wealth to do that with an F50 by then, the 599 seems to be the one.

I agree with stephens. A 599 looks very nice, except for the stock gay wheels. :( But the challenge style wheels look great in that lovely colour pictured. :)

with the ATO embarking on a LCT crackdown, me thinks not, tease the animals and the cost exceeds the gain, my guess is that 575M will fit the bill, IMO one of those and a 360 as a toy for the price of a 599, still i cant get used to the 612/599 front end, looks poofy

    But if you're considering a 575 anyway, why not consider a 550?

Most people will "think" you've got a 550 is you have a 575, and I reckon a 550 is a better car..... cheaper and more tweakable too.

I say get a 550, and with the spare 300K over a 599, have some other kind of fun.

Phil u are quite right, the 550 is a "normal" car with a manual tranny, all the F1 stuff is scary monsters if it breaks, (thats why the QP is going at the end of the warranty), however in saying all that i can see the 575 as a more comfort based car, the 599 scares me in the cost (affordable but why?) hence get a 575 and another toy to boot.

cost differential currently puts a medium km 550 at 185000 to 200000, and a 575 at about 325000, the 599 will probably come in at 600+, which then i'm at the mercy of the worst dealer in the country, Prestige. and with a 575/550 i can shop from cape tribulation to hobart and possibly see dingo in WA.

and do u put tweakable in the same category as Stephen's 550?

The car is fine stock with some basic intake/exhaust upgrades (and wheel spacers) Standard brakes are fine with pad and fluid change, just no good for extensive tracking. My goal was building a street registered track car.

As much as I disagree with what Stephen has done, I have to say it is holding up remarkably well to the amount of track thrashing it has had.
It is also pretty quick for a modded road car.

I've never been in a 550/575/599 so not much I can say.....infact I'm like Ash, out of the 11 Ferraris I've had rides in none have been front-engined. :(

    EDIT: forgot Andrew's 365, sorry.

    I'm waiting....

Yes, just more fun IMO. We have '04 M3 and 550. 550 is the quintessential Ferrari daily drive car.

but he did buy the limited edition highly priced M3, and in typical fashion anything BMW do that costs more than 200k will depreciate faster than a building after being hit by an ansett jet

I've driven only late model 575's so I don't know if there were earlier software versions, but the torquey motor of the 575 works much better with the tranny than the SMGII on the M3 IMO. Not quite up to the QP changes, but no complaints. Better yet, just put 575 modulars on a 550 with FHP, better car than the 575 IMO.
