As I mentioned earlier about the garage queen, 10170 mile and the weekend driver, 26000 mile in early thread........I went out and test drove both....
The black mechanically much better. Good acceleration and fast respond. feel solid. The Red felt loose. I also felt the clutch on the red is thin as I need to let go the clutch nearly half way before the car actually move, That's sign of worn clutch, isn't it.... if so, that's a big expense waiting. Do I go with the red and repair clutch and some suspension bushing or respray the black to red???? confuse...

I would stay away from a respray but I am into originality. Black is a beautiful color.

A colour change will affect your re-sale value for sure. No matter what you say there will always be that niggling doubt - "why did it need a full respray?"

Why on earth would you re-spray a Ferrari that doesn't need it? Black is too cool!!

After all is said and done, you are being seduced by a classic garage queen which "the owner hardly drove in this last three years".

    Good luck with it.

It sound like the color that you really want is red.

With that being said, there are two choices really.

    1) Be patient and wait for the right car to come along

    2) Buy the red one, and negotiate with the owner explaining to him the clutch & suspension issues(split the cost with him etc...). Then when you have the clutch done(about 3K in the US) - your mind will be at rest.

    3) Really shouldn't be an option - respray - I can understand if you were to respray with the same color - but to change color that would adversely affect resale. However, if you were to keep the car forever, then go for it!

    Good luck.

Cost is going to be about the same once you fix the things in question on the red one compared to the cost of disassembling the black one including removing the engine to paint it.

Besides a TR looks good in black.

    What's wrong with respray??!

Granted, most will do it because the car was damaged or what not, but what about high quality restorations, or just wanting nice, shiny paint???

Have any of you seen the difference in black between a Boxer & a 360??

Damn BB may be sexier, but it sure could use some new paint!

I don't think the issue itself is with a respray, getting a new coat of red paint to replace the old coat of red paint. The issue is with the change of color, black paint for red paint on the respray. Am I correct?

A color change does tend to drop resale value no matter how well it was done.
