So this is the customer with the carbon fiber seats who wanted the subs to be recessed to the point where if the seats were pushed too far back, they would touch the leather and not accidently touch the metal grill.

Just to give you an idea of what it takes to manufacture these, consider this:

R&D development costs to produce the CAD files for the CNC robot: $400.
Cost of wood and having the pieces cut by the CNC robot: $200.
Cost of subwoofers and grills: $600.
Cost of the leather alone: $700 + tax + shipping (because it's an "off" color).
Cost to upholster (6 1/2 hours spent on these): $640.
Misc costs (heavy duty speaker wire, fasteners, glue, etc.) $100.
Cost of matching blue thread ($7 + $49 for overnight shipping, customer is in a hurry): $56
About 10 hours of my time constructing these (what is minimum wage these days)? :)
Total COST: Approaching three thousand dollars.

So, when you see an $1800 price tag on these things, don't have a heart attack.
    :D

Curious, where are you sourcing the subwoofers? The price you are quoting sound like you are buying the retail.

By the time you figure in sales tax, gas to get to/from the retail store and my time, I might as well be paying retail. But that's not the point. The point is that people think I should be selling these for half of what I am charging. They just don't realize what goes into these things and how high the quality really is. You really have to have them in your hands to appreciate them.

Thanks! If they are not absolutely perfect, they will not leave my shop. I have even gone so far as to ship a complete new subwoofer enclosure at no charge to my customers because the number of stitches per inch on the leather did not match their car. And this was not per their request, it was mine!

IMO, don't attempt to justify your price. Offer the product for sale at a price that you will make money for your efforts. If people have an issue with that, those are not your target customers. Do you think Ferrari ever justifies the cost of their cars?

VERY good point! Worked for Sticky-No-More. Robbie the owner, who was a cop, almost gave up the business because it was too much hassle for not enough money, and someone suggested raising his prices. Look at him now... he's a straight-up BALLER! Congrats Robbie! Great job on my parts.

I think your issue may be one of marketing and not pricing. Most well-heeled Ferrari owners aren't spending tons of time on F-chat, with the obvious exceptions. Remember,
most people come here for help and to talk about cars, not to buy stereo equipment. Maybe try to hook up with high-end stereo shops around the country?

Your product looks absolutely beautiful, and at $1800 they're a steal. If I had extra cash right now I'd snap it up for that price. Your photos are looking really good too!

I really think you hit the nail on the head. I really need to bring someone in to help me with the marketing aspect. Everyone who gets their hands on these just raves about the quality. However, the customers I have are those who just happened to stumble across my build threads. As soon as I get the website to a point where I am happy with it, I am going to hire a marketing expert.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and good marketing/salesmanship is not easy to do yourself. I absolutely suck at it.

Sounds like you have a good plan! Best of luck to you.
