Lot of chatter on local PCA board as to possible solutions to deer problem at SP. Tracks at SP have had issues recently, not only deer, but instructor being killed at Jefferson Circuit when student driver lost control and hit a tree. The video here is a green student, first beginning to solo. Driver taking video also green, so somewhat understandable he thought he could help other driver - although we do teach students not to exit cars until instructed to by marshal. This deer accident followed another accident, a couple of hours earlier, same place on track, but damage was relatively minor to one fender. Rob
I'm done with this track. While I really like the main circuit, I won't be going back to this facility until they invest in some safety measures. If more people do this, the economic reality of the situation would hopefully get track management to act. Too bad, as it's a really fun course to drive, but it's no longer worth the risk. Cheers, Ron
I remember two deer incidents from Summit: one crossing the main course (twice) before it headed over to the Jefferson Circuit- where BIKES were running. No-one got hurt, but bikes + deer ain't gonna end pretty. Another time deer was hit and it pushed the A-pillar back into the roll cage of a BMW. Without the cage, that would likely have been a very serious incident. I have never seen a deer or any other critter at any other track. Not sure why Summit Point cannot install adequate fencing.
