The article is slightly misleading. They would be building you a DeLorean from "new old stock" parts, but it wouldn't be a redesign nor a mint car made '81-'83.

It's kinda pointless since you have been able to buy a fully reconditioned DMC for years from delorean.com for about $40k. I guess these would be for extreme fringe fanatics (which is saying a lot since D people are extreme fringe to start with).

One of my business partners owns three...

A mint condition low mile concourse, a daily driver and a red turbocharged version...next on his list is to get one and make it look like the Back To The Future version...he's already bought copies of all of the blueprints.

    Still waiting...

    DeLorean is back. (From Jalponik)

That's the official word from the folks at DeLorean Motor Company anyway. We sat down with James Espey, veep of the DeLorean Motor Company, one of a large corporate contingent in Detroit on Saturday for the Woodward Dream Cruise. They were there to cater to the large number of DeLorean enthusiasts in town to cruise their classic flux-capacitor-carrying time machines. The burning question we had was whether the AP story was correct in hinting that DMC would again be building DeLoreans. His response was absolutely clear:

"Job one will begin the third quarter of this year, with delivery by Q1 of 2008. We're aiming for $57,500 as the sale price."
And yes, we're also told it will look like a DeLorean -- square nose, gull-wings and all. This time, instead of attempting to mass produce the cars, the DeLorean folks will be building them by hand at their assembly plant in the li'l town of Humble, Texas. No word yet on issues regarding EPA testing or production numbers (we didn't think to ask), but the Detroit News is claiming it'll be one or two a month. The shots below were from the Saturday meet-up during the Woodward Dream Cruise where we spoke with Espey.

Hopefully the newer ones will have a real motor, unlike the prv boat anchor. I hear there is a northstar conversion.

Hopefully they bring out a real car this time and not something slower than a Fiero.

It always seemed a shame to me that a man who was a heartbeat away from the presidency of General Motors, and who popularized the whole muscle car era with the Pontiac GTO, and who had a fashion model wife named Christina FERRARI, ---

Should be always remembered for this mess of a car (and the back to the future custom, by association), and of course the bankruptcy & cocaine bust.

Im just wondering if you've ever driven one.

It IS slow...but I find it to be a great cruiser. Its not a sports car...not sure if it was ever marketed as a sports car. Its incredibly comfortable...one of the most comfortable cars Ive ever driven.

So is all this true? Are they really building them in Humble, TX? If so I might have to make a run up there. Its just in North Houston.

DMC Texas is the best in the DeLorean cult.

There not as bad as most people think. I enjoy driving it, great cruiser. They are "querky", have tons of idiosyncrassies (sp?), but no different than other low production exotic "ish" type car.

They are kinda slugish but I didn't buy one because it was fast. Most parts are easy to get and I can take it to any mechanic that knows Volvos to repair.

I still don't understand why someone would pay $57500 for a refurb one when a nice "original" one can be had for 35K or less. The "new" Delorean reminds me of the Avanti they started making in the 80's. Some say newer/better but still not an original Avanti, and worth less too!

I rode in one waaay back in the day of course its alot of fun! I loved it.

I would put it in the same catagory as the Plymouth prowler where the car looks great but isn't exactly performance in mind. Just a cool car. :)

Uh oh I better give chris Hansen a call.

The DeLorean is funky, I like it...but it's a shame this new 1 won't be built in Ireland

I always wanted to have someone make new front and rear fascias in stainless, then polish the whole thing... Of course you probably couldn't drive it, but...

    Shiny Side Up!
