Now I don't own a Ferrari, but I treat my s2k as if it were one. Near my house in Teaneck a Delta gas station just opened up selling 93 for under 2 dollars (1.98 or 99 last time i checked). I was always taught not to buy from the noname stations (this might be a chain, but its obviously a budget chain), but this is very tempting... my friends say gas is gas, and my wallet tells me the same. So would you guys feel comfortable putting this in your F cars?

When it comes down to, it's the refining (and marketing) process that drives the perception and hence the price of the gasoline. Personally, I'll use the lesser known brand for my Jeep, but I'll pay the 30 cents premium for a high performance car like a Ferrari.

I think if its a busy station that gets frequent deliveries there would be no problem.

Why not just get some top-grade former-Soviet gas at Luk Oil?

I'd do a gas tank and see what happens. 1 tank's not gonna mess anything up. If the car still runs great, go for it. If not, then don't ever do it again.

    Ever.

Gasoline is highly regulated by the government. From what I understand, all gas is the same. It has to be. Hopefully believing this to be the case, I buy the cheapest I can find.

Yes but the brand name companies put additives in there gas to enrich the product and improve performance in your cars thus the added cost.Such is the case with Chevron gas, they add techron in there gas. Mobile has detergent gas and im sure the other major gas companies have there secret additive also.

Almost all fuel is the same product. Unless a company has it's own refinery / terminal in your area, they ship the fuel in a common pipeline from refinery to terminal. They rent space in the pipeline xxx number of gallons, and then pump those gallons into the pipeline, and as needed pull out of the terminal side the same number of gallons. It could have been from Mobil, BP, Shell, etc. Some companies put additives in just prior to delivery, but most fuel is the same.

This not too diffrent than the way we would deliver beer from the brew house to the packaging plant. Each filler would have a dedicated pipe from the brew house. The BH would pack the line with carbonated water, then specific beer behind it, we would then run the filler until all of the water was out and only beer. When we would switch from one beer to another, some were seperated by water, some were back to back with a mix of beer in the bottle.

I do look for high volume, and fairly new stations just to get clean fuel from the tank. I will put Exxon, Mobil, Shell, Gulf, and Raceway.

lol.....I used to pump gas when i was a kid at some local discount gas station. Ask any gas delivery driver what a tip over is, I dont know what the going rate is today but they used to pay 3 cents on the gallon when i was working.

    Hey, I know that area.

I've tracked the gas mileage with several different brands, running 3 tank fulls for comparison. Mileage did vary, with Hess Premium getting me the best mileage (Sunoco Ultra+ being the next best). I don't use cheapy in my Ferrari. I *do* use cheapy in my Ford and it doesn't know the difference. I too worked a station in my college days & had all sorts of tankers pulling up to the station (was a "Dis-Gas" station - Cumberland farms). They *never* put in any special additives.

*However*, I have noticed I get "Short Fills" on the pumps ($10 in gas gets me say 5 gallons instead of the 7gals it should have) in Teaneck/Bergan from the no-names. These places are hi-volume so I didn't expect problems from stale gas. Watch STS stations.

Nah, my heads empty. Comes from sniffing the gas fumes while working the pumps.

Seriously : I keep records of every fill (ok, so I'm anal retentive and my accountant envies my habits) so I know these things! :)
