Demo car service records

Hello fellow chatters

I was hoping to reach out to service managers/ sales managers at any dealership or anyone who has experienced this in the past.

The issue: The first owner of a vehicle is about to sell his car which he bought new but a "Demo" from the same dealer he has been servicing the car since new; he is the only and current owner of car. He has requested, since the proposed buyer asked for all service records on vehicle from dealership. Dealership only sent over service records from the time he took possession and not anything while car being used as a demo. The Carfax shows 4-5 services before he took possession. Dealer is not willing to produce those records. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I would be suspect of the car if the dealer is withholding any information about it's past service.

 

Usually they hide behind ‘the records belong to the person who paid for the services,’ but in this case I’d say it’s a bit shady

 

Am I misunderstanding something here: how can a new car show 4-5 services ?

 

In dealer use prior to being titled perhaps?

I would have the current owner/seller request the records.

 

what is the manufacturer? I would imagine that if the actual current owner, they may require some proof, called the vehicles manufacture's headquarters they would supply all records performed by authorized dealers - they may redact owner information.

 

That is who is requesting ..that is why I feel it is so strange

Bentley takes customer service seriously - have the owner call I am sure they will bend over backwards to help. I would ask for the records with no preamble then if I got push back then tell the entire story - If it was a demo the new owner is the first owner and there is absolutely no privacy issues.

The owner tried and they said they can't fulfill this request as these records belong to the dealership.

run away.

a dealer, in a weak moment, told me about the life of a 'demonstrator' before it is sold.
you do not want that car.

 

Other threads on this site say Ferrari does not release service records from prior owners either. This does not mean there is anything wrong as it seems to be normal yet strange. I personally would not buy a demo car over a non-demo unless I really wanted that specific car and it was examined and found to be without issues. I also would offer less due to the uncertainty of the quality of care. We've all gone on runs with our local dealers and the demo cars don't get the love the owner cars get which is logical.
